If an animal swallowed a diamond ring, would they get sick? Or can they actually pass it through their intestines? I know my kitten got into my
jewelry tray and now I am missing a diamond ring. I have turned the house upside down and have not found it. (Cynthia Oliver, Florida)
This really depends on the size of the cat and the ring. If your cat has eaten the ring then it may pass it through there intestines with no ill effect. However as diamond are very hard and sharp it is possible that it could cause tearing of the gut on the way through. It could also cause a blockage of the
intestine. I would keep a very close eye on your cat for any unusual behavior and consider taking it to the vet for an x-ray which would confirm whether he swallowed it or not.
