The blend of clinoptilolite zeolite and activated carbon works much better at reducing ammonia levels and maintaining water clarity than using activated carbon alone. I have tested this by taking water samples from both filter mediums to my local fish store to be checked and the clinoptilolite zeolite blend provided better results
