If you are a good beginner or strike the ball well but don't want to pay a fortune for a set, these are the best bargain on Ebay. These clubs can be great for you if you buy the right ones fit for you. Ping helps to make this easier, especially for you folks buying on Ebay, and not in a store. I did the static fit on Ping.com and previously had a local professional fit me dynamically. Because of this, I found the perfect match for me and I'm not afraid to buy them online. The website even tells you which shaft to go with if you know how far you typically hit your 6 iron. I found that by working on tempo and not trying to kill the ball, I am able to gain considerable distance and accuracy over my old irons (Titleist DCI 990) just by using these clubs and slowing it down a bit. When you buy the proper length and lie, you will be amazed at how much better you strike the ball. My point is this; get a solid fitting in before you buy any irons. They might be a good deal, but there is a reason Ping fits you to the club. About the Ping irons. These irons play well. I found it easy to shape shots from right to left. It was a bit more difficult left to right, but I've never been able to do that well anyhow. Because I was able to let the club hit the ball and control my tempo better, the ball flight is consistent and the carry is, too. My accuracy has increased dramatically, as well. Especially from the 8 iron down to the pitching wedge. The shot trajectory is much higher and softer landing with these and I don't get a lot of roll. Again, especially from the 8 iron down. I attribute a lot of the improvements to the change in my tempo, but I give the Pings the credit for helping me change the tempo of my swing and really feel what I am doing with the shot more than that of other irons I have hit. Mishits are not so bad either. You really have to shank the ball or leave the clubface open to mess a shot up with these. Expect to pay more for the various graphite shafts. The Ping custom WRX clubs are usually more as well. If you find a set of Pingss with a matching sand wedge, jump on them because the sand wedges are hard to find individually. A lot of times, the owners name has been applied to the club. I found you can get this off easily with acetone and light sandpaper if it is screened in and not etched. You might ask the seller when this is listed this way. In addition, if you are not very good at the long irons (2,3, and 4) you may want to look at the G5 hybrids. I have them too. If you hit the ball hard, but typically slice or hook, the hybrids dramatically reduce the mishit effect. Be careful when bidding. There are some demo clubs floating around out there. Check with the seller for serial numbers as all Ping consumer clubs have them. Pay attention to feedback scores. This is Ebay's barometer of service. I swear by the feedback system. I hope you found this info helpful.Read full review
Ping i3 blades with JZ reg. shafts. Very straight hitting irons, off the tight sandy loam of FL they do have a sharper edge and can dig in to quickly, really work great on real grass fairways, not the creepy bermuda in Florida with a sand base. It's hard to hit a ball to far off line with any reasonable contact, I have played Taylor, Cleveland and Mizuno, had trouble with all of them in hit severe hooks. These irons got me in the club semi finals, but poor putting cost me. On the down side, looks are sort of like Ugly Betty, but can really get the job done on the plus side. If you live and play in FL I would look for a less sharper leading edge, unless it's very good grass in fairways, then there is no problem. I play a course that has lots of play and grass at times is immature and close to sand.Read full review
I struggled with my iron game for many years. I was using a set of Nicklaus EZ-Ups, and couldn’t get the right pop out of my irons. I went to Golfsmith and went through all of their new irons from Taylormade, Cobra, Titleist, Cleveland, Callaway, Mizuno, and Ping. I really don’t like the new low forged style that every golf maker is trying to push, and my Nickalus irons were low forged and I couldn’t hit them at all. I started to try the Ping i15, I have always heard good things about the Ping brand, and I like the thin styling of the irons. It was reminiscent of the irons I had while I was growing up. After realizing that I wasn’t going to spend $800-$1100 on an iron set I decided to look in the used club selection they have at Golfsmith. My budget was around $200-$400 so I was looking for Ping i-series irons in that price range. I really liked the Ping i3s. They visually looked powerful like I could cut through any rough and not twist, turn, or slow down. They also added about +10 yards compared to my previous irons. Then I tried the Ping i3+ Blade irons, they were even better than the i3s. They added another +5 yards to my distance, and they traveled even straighter than the i3s. At Golfsmith, the Ping i3+ blades were out of my price range though at $450, so as soon as I got home I jumped on eBay and found them for $230. I have played these irons for about a month now and absolutely love them. My scores went from 51s to 43-45. These irons have given me much more confidence in my ability, and some much added distance. Yesterday, I hit a 9 iron 140 yards straight at the pin. Try all of the iron manufactures first, then try ping irons and you will feel the difference. I even made a believer out of my dad who ditched his new Callaway X-20s, and bought some old school Ping Eye2s. He dropped 2 strokes his first time out. Don’t waste your time on other irons that are gimmicky. Ping is proven performance.Read full review
True story. A friend wanted me to sell his Ping i3+ Blades on Ebay. I brought them home and hit a few balls into the woods. I couldn't beleive how good these irons felt. Instead of selling his clubs I sold my Callaway Fusions with Rifle shafts. These Ping i3+ Blades with the CS Lite Cushin regular shafts were longer and felt better than my Fusions. Since then I've tried the X20, X20 Tour and the Ping i10's. I wanted to replace my i3+ Blades for the upcoming season. I ended up buying another set of i3+ Blades, brand new and 1 degree flat with the CS Lite Cushin regular flex shaft. I really think you have to get the Cushin shaft. I wanted something new but I went back to one of Ping's best irons ever. Now I know why Chris Dimarco and others still play these. These irons will stand the test of time. THANKS PINGRead full review
This is the best set of clubs I've ever used. I have played golf for over 30 years, but I always had clubs from many sources for the first 15 years. I bought my first new set in 1992 - Hogans - and since then a set of Excaliburs, 2 sets of clones - one custom set, but I never had a club that felt this clean when I hit them. I would recommend higher quality clubs to anyone who shoots in the 90's or better. I am a 12 handicap now and my iron play has improved 5 -6 strokes per round since I bought these. I bought this used set from E-bay to see if the better club would make a difference without spending the $1k that a new set would cost.
