I have owned 3 sets of G5s at different times and currently own a set that will remain in my bag. Ping has a winner here and hope they keep making this club for many years to come. I'm a 13 handicapper, used to be a 5 until my back problems, and tried about every new club out there. That was alot of JING to learn a lesson. The Pings Do Everything that they were designed to do. They're longer than most clubs with the CS Lite Shaft, little vibration, good feedback and lots of spin, especially when using softer balls like the Titleist V1s and even the Topflite D2s with feel. I have Titleist Vokey and Cleveland Wedges and find that the G5 wedges hit straighter, higher, lower and have lots of jism (spin) when needed. Out of the trap is a cinch-had a set of F2 wedges and they were sold- no comparison. These clubs have given me more than my money's worth in wins and always feel confident that the ball will always go where I want it to go. Motto of the Story: "If It Ain't Broke, Don't Change Clubs!" The G5 irons are awesome. I switch from dated Ping Eyes to the G5's because I have been playing more and wanted to tighten my game. I hit some of the other big named irons before deciding, but couldn't lose my desire for another set of Pings. Although some of them felt real good, they still weren't Pings. Since I changed from a regular flex to a stiff shaft, I thought that my slow swing speed might lower the distance of my ball, but that wasn't the case. I now hit my utility wedge as far as I used to hit my Ping Eye pitching wedge (consistent with both models). The rest of the irons are dead accurate with a good sized sweet spot. The G5's feel right and help me look good, what more could I ask for. One more note, I do recommend using Ping's color chart for sizing (both iron color dot and grips), it worked for me.Read full review
Im a collector and like pings as "easy " clubs to hit...long flight and good acuracy but no real touch around the greens...These afir the bill and are similar but perhaps a bit better than previous such Pings. Close to G-2 and in the family of the i-3+ Pings. for many these are the perfect club--for me they are a bailout--and easy day at the ranch---long and easy to swing and fun to play--but minimum real " feel" like true forge clubs--of which I have all too many. A collection must be balenced and mine now is. The true, great Pings are the Eye 2's (1-lw) and the ISI's --long fascinating to look at and rel classics. The I-3 Blades come close and with the less offset feel cloer to the real blade, but with more forgiveness. I have been luck, through e-bay to build this collection. and I thank the seller all. I recently upgrades my golf club set from the Ping Zings to the Ping G5's. The old set was the hottest thing going in the early 90's and I always thought what was good then must be good now.....until I hit the G5's. They are simply so forgiving that they will elevate an 18 indexed player like myself and save me a few shots per round. The design is so forgiving that off center hits and balls that would have gone half their normal distance or off to one side with my old clubs, go straight and far and feel solid with this club. It won't hit the ball for you but golf is a game of consistency and if you're not a single handi-capper, these clubs will add consistency to your game for you. Everyone else is taking advantage of the technology, so why not you too? I love them and with a market like e-bay, I sold my old clubs and upgraded to the new clubs for just a few hundred bucks.......much better than paying $1,000 for new clubs at the retail shops. The club heads help you close the face on a swing. My experience has resulted in about 8-12 more yards per club over my old ones - with more accuracy. The ball flies higher and lands more softly. I'm still adjusting to the changes, but I truly like what I see. They look great as well - I must like the utility look. I decided to buy them after having a chance to test these along with about 3 alternative brands. The G5 just felt better and more natural to me. Buying them on eBay saved me more than $200 for the set, and while my set was used, I don't think the former owner had more than 10-15 rounds on them. An excellent buy for me and I am delighted with them.
