A few years ago we discovered a problem inherent with the current Savage 11/111 series rifles sold with scopes. While the overall XP rifle was a 'great' ready to go hunting package with a decent scope, the eye relief provided by the scope and mounting system offered by Savage was not optimum for all users. One size fits all does not work for everyone. This was discovered by my wife when elk hunting in winter clothing. Simply it was difficult for her to move her head far enough forward to see clearly through the scope when taking a shot. While wearing summer clothes, the eye relief problem wasn't apparent but adding a few layers of winter clothing can make a huge difference in being able to obtain proper eye relief in order to see clearly through the scope. The Weaver 48329 multi-slot base easily solves this issue and is inexpensive too. With this base you can move the scope and its eye relief further back or forward if you desire and really fine tune setting the rifle up for the individual user by providing proper eye relief for viewing through the scope. There is also another version by Weaver for the short action Savage models too which I have used. Thus this particular model base does not fit Savage short action receivers and be advised this base by Weaver only fits Savage receivers with both receiver mounting locations round and the same height. It does not fit older Savages receivers which had both flat and round scope base mounting locations. The 48329 mount also fits left-hand models but the area relieved for the ejection side of the receiver does not quite match up properly, this does not really affect function but is slightly off cosmetically. The only drawback to this type of scope mount is it makes top loading the rifle a bit more difficult. This really isn’t really a big issue if your rifle has a detachable magazine but loading a Savage rifle with a blind magazine requires practice and patience which may be in short supply if you’re reloading after missing that big bull or trophy buck.Read full review

Item came to me with the packaging held together with a rubber band. The base itself was okay other than a chip on the corner that is consistent with it being dropped. As I was in a bind to get the scope mounted for a hunt, I had to mount it on my new rifle. I was able get it zeroed so no functional issues noted. That’s the only reason for two stars.

Sits low. Has a slight bevel over the action opening for a little extra finger room when loading. It went on a Savage Model 111. Was able to use Leupold low rings to mount a Bushnell 3-9x40 Legend scope.

Well made nice new screws to mount .

Wanted a beefier base over the factory two piece one that comes with the gun and this fit the bill nicely and didn't break the bank.
