I purchased this product as I read great reviews and the price was right. The challenge was in registering it with NETGEAR because it did not come with the password and network name. I had to call tech support who proceeded to do a sales number on me, "only $100 per year to maintain your equipment". I explained my new purchase and trying to identify the password etc, but the serial number. I finally had to ask for a supervisor only to discover the information I was trying to give them regarding the default username and password, was precisely what was needed to create my own password, so that I could get it linked to my new Xfinity account. All in all, I like this combo product so far (it's only been 6 days).....

I bought this gateway to combine my broadband internet modem with house WiFi, and stop paying $5/m leasing the modem from my ISP. Overall the gateway does what is suppose to do, but I quickly found few problems that caused me to return it. First problem was that it absolutely refused to work with my VoIP phone service. I spent almost an hour with NETGEAR support without success. The gateway web interface and configuration options are simple, but lacking the features that would allow the user to setup VoIP service. I thought then, well maybe I'll give up my digital phone service, because the gateway is so good and fast, but here as well was my disappointment. Soon enough I started experiencing WiFi connection drops which came out of the blue, even after I double and tripple checked gateway configuration. I consider myself very savvy with all these things, and in addition to streaming movies, I use VPN a lot doing my work, so connection drops were not part of my plan. Also my wireless printer connection gone with the wind... I returned the gateway and got back to my old, proved and working ISP configuration. Good 'ole modem with additional WiFi router. Bottom line, if you're a basic user who want to have a fast WiFi router gateway, go ahead and use this NETGEAR but let someone knowledgeable configure it for you. If you're more advanced and need more features and performance, don't go there. Look for higher end modules.Read full review
We purchased this item brand new a few years ago. Like it very much. Better than paying $12.00/month for a rental and make the cable company rich!! Purchased a 2nd one, used for our son in college and it works great. :)
