By comparison to current OEM GPS systems (as of 01/2007), this unit is the clear leader. The big advantages are: No CD required in unit for full GPS functionality- I have a couple of friends who drive cars with factory GPS (Jeep and Subaru) and they both need to have a GPS CD inserted in order for to see the maps and address listings (without any maps, a GPS is pretty worthless). Free software and map updates can be downloaded from Garmin (yes this is made by Garmin, one of the top names in GPS technology). You load this to an SD card and update the KNA-G510 from that. And no you do not need to have the SD card installed for the GPS to work. Real time 3D view - I didn't think this would be a big deal and didn't really expect to use it, but this is really nice to get a good perspective of your route. Lots of other customizeable features like entering your own locations and icons, saved routes, various milage and track log features and more. The only things I would like to see improved are: Better map updates - I live on a new street, but it's been there for almost 18 months now and it was not on the last update (Jan. 5, 2007). Better business database - Domino's Pizza and some other businesses are not in the database (not necessarily new businesses either). The compatible Kenwood touch-screen units have a separate volume control dedicated for the attached GPS unit such as this... and the KNA-G510 also has it's own volume control. By default the volume setting in the main unit is low so even when you turn the KNA-G510 to 100%, it still sounds quiet. You need to dig a little to get to the volume setting for this in the main Kewood unit, but it is there and once properly adjusted, it will be loud enough. Overall a great automotive GPS with huge wow factor. I originally bought one for the compatible Kenwood touch screen that was already installed in my vehicle when purchased; I liked this so much I replaced my wife's OEM deck for a compatible Kenwood so I could put a KAN-G510 in her vehicle too. With the pace at which technology evolves, this review may be outdated by the time you are reading it (written January 2007), but at this time, this is clearly one of the best GPS units available for in-dash navigation.Read full review
This unit its realy easy to install and comes with all cables and antenna ,you need to connect only 4 power cables (+,- etc),one for antenna and one cable to main kenwood unit ,but im not satisfied 100% with performance because if you put antenna inside the car reception is not 100% and sometimes gps loses a signal or when you stop - car is still moving !! .Also its kind of slow when you start the car ,it takes some time to show all the details on the map...Maybe if you put antenna on the roof or something that would be better but who wants to drill the holes??? If you want to buy better search ebay for better price (i paid 350 with shipping) because sure i would be pissed if i paid 800 dollars for this unit...Maybe speed sensor cable for gps would be a good idea like on Pioneer stereos? im suprised on the performance because this unit is made by Garmin for Kenwood and i expected more...or maybe that is just me and my car?Read full review
Very easy to use, updating the maps is a needed at this point but is very easy to do also. The operating system updates the same was also, a small sd card is needed to do any of these. Connection to the head unit was direct and simple.
Came missing parts and when I bought the extra parts that the listing said it would come with it didnt even work and was a defective unit.
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
I love the ease of using this GPS, it takes seconds to find a location. It also finds satalites about 100 times faster than my magelen GPS. Very worth its cost. Like new cant even tell that it has been refurbished. If he dident tell you you couldent tell the difference.
