I have tried several types of kitty litter trays and found this to be the most effective. Yes it does require effort, I tip it several times a day as I have 5 cats using it. I’ve already saved a lot on kitty litter and tracking is minimal due to the design. I used to have to have 3 trays and now I’m down to one due to the cats feeling comfortable going in a clean tray most of the time. I’m experimenting as to which type of litter will he most effective as odour control, value for money and clumping ability. There are some out there that are way too clay like and makes cleaning harder but overall a great product. I will look at purchasing another to reduce my workload even further.

Followed instructions to a T but not happy with it. Doesn't sift the mess out properly (is often left in the pan after handle is turned) and tends to dump a good amount of clean litter in the bottom compartment when handle is used. Good idea in theory but doesn't work in reality and was a waste of money 🙁

A lot of people write negative reviews on the smart shift. I imagine because they are expecting a total 100% foolproof system when they buy it. This is the 2nd smart shift I have purchased ( first one was damaged in storage/moving) Cons: you do need to use the branded liners for tilt tray and poo draw. You might need to experiment with type of litter you use in it ( smart shift recommend clumping) I use crystals with no hassle Yes you need to "tilt" the tray regualarly Pros: easy to tilt the tray morning and night Easy to top up crystals by raising flap/lid Unit is robust and can be hosed/ pressure washed for hygiene No more have to hold my breathe while scooping poo out with litter rake/shovel. Litter lasts longer. All in all I'm very happy with smart shift, it's not totally automatic, it's not foolproof - but it allows me to ensure my 2 girls have a clean space to poo and makes it easy for me to dispose of waste without getting my hands dirty. If your looking for a totally automatic unit it's going to honestly cost somewhere around $900-$1000 for one of the orbital ball types and even they still require maintenance and daily checking. Unfortunately, using the large plastic bag is useless due to the fold in the bottom catching too much. If it was just a straight join it would work better. I will use a better liner. The area where the handle fits could be stronger.

I purchased 4 of these units as I have 6 fur babies and desperately needed to upgrade from old really smelly litter boxes. I have a bad back injury and fibromyalgia which does not make it easy for me to clean 6 manual standard hooded litter boxes but now we have the Catit Smartshift Litter boxes cleaning my babies “toilets” is so easy, with virtually no smell or litter tracking compared with our old litter boxes. I simply pull down on the handle which sifts the litter, removing the lumps of clumped litter, dropping it into the tray underneath then push the handle back into the lock position which then returns the sifted cleaned litter back into the box ready for my babies to use. So now it’s that easy, I pull the handle twice a day, top up with new litter as the level drops and it keeps the bad smells locked away. I empty the waste draw at the bottom using the recommended bags once a week. I love this product and highly recommend it for anyone with multiple fur babies, so much so that I intend to purchase 1 more to make sure my boys have enough options to keep them happy.
