Well lets face it!! It was not like the TV show to an extent.Other than the foul language and other small tid bits I liked the fast moving action and especially the car stunts. The General Lee has never been driven that way before and had never been filmed the way it was filmed.I loved the camera angles as it moved around the front of the car while it was in the race. The movie was entertaining and never got slow until you have watched it a dozen times. The actors done a pretty good job considering whose shoes they were expected to fill.I liked these guys being Bo and Luke alot better than I liked Coy and Vance in the original series.Of course no one can replace the original Bo and Luke, but at least the movie didn't try to completely copy the original actors.I have not watched the unrated version, but I enjoyed watching the orange charger jump and skidd around in ways that it had never done before. The car was super cool in this movie and the cast was very likeable and comedic as it should be.As a die hard dukes fan this movie has attracted new fans that have never heard of the dukes of hazzard and alot of merchandise that was not avaliable til now also. The series was great for its time and I think the movie was great considering it was a remake of a 30 year old show.It was alot better than the starsky and hutch remake, talk about lame!!Read full review
This movie is absolutely unwatchable. Yeah, I'm thirty-two and I grew up on the original. But please don't take this negative review to be yet another bitter lamentation about how such-and-such TV show of my youth was remade as a movie and wasn't up to the high standards of my nostalgia. The original was crap, too, but in a different way. It was just plain low-budget and hokey. The car was awesome, the characters were loveable; it appealed to my first-grade mentality. This remake is, by far, one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Back when they announced that it was going to be remade, I was cynical. When it came out in theaters, I refused to go see it because I just knew it would be bad. One night it was rented and we all watched in train-wreck horror. I was so impressed by how far it had exceeded my expectations of awfulness that I was speechless throughout the entire ordeal. I don't know which worried me the most: A. The fact that it actually got released in theaters, or B. The fact that enough movie-goers were satisfied enough with it that they did not immediately demand a refund and an apology. The "acting" was unbearable. Perhaps the least offensive performance was given by Willie Nelson, as Uncle Jessie. He just sort of played the part of "Celebrity Guest Star Willie Nelson As Uncle Jessie". He acted absolutely nothing like Denver Pile's original character, but let's face it - Willie Nelson is just a likeable guy, so it was sort of passable. The worst acting, by far (other than Jessica Simpson's, who was hired for other reasons), was done by Burt Reynolds as Boss Hogg. The moment he opened his mouth, it was clear that there would be no redemption for this painful mess of a movie. I cannot understand how anyone with an ounce of discrimination could have imagined that Burt Reynolds could offer anything but a sprinkling of name-recognition to this project. Again, it was as if the original character had been completely disregarded as a source of inspiration. Jessica Simpson shook and wiggled, pinched off some insultingly bad dialogue, and got paid. As an inanimate, archetypical female sex object she was fulfilling. As an actress, she made Catherine Bach look like Allison Janney. I sincerely hope that she is putting some money aside for later. Aside from their ineptitude, the rest of the cast was thoroughly unremarkable. John O'brien's writing was not quite as good as Chester Novell Turner's. Technically, the movie was average. There was clearly an adequate amount of money to squander. The stunts were pretty good, especially the ones involving that gorgeous Charger. The bottom line is this: Some movies are so bad, they're worth seeing just to make fun of. Unfortunately, the Dukes of Hazzard movie does not even earn this dubious distinction. It is merely an insult to human intelligence.Read full review
