If you've never played the Eye 2 square groove irons then you need to experience these irons to understand my review. This is my third or fourth set of Eye 2's, I always seem to be drawn back to their feel and playability. I'm a 10 handicapper and always looking for an advantage to get lower. I've used newer iron sets only to be somewhat disappointed. I pulled out my old set of Eye 2's and adjusted my distances for each club (newer clubs don't necessarily hit further, they just have different lofts and appear to hit further). I had to adjust from my old set to hit one club more (6 instead of a 7) to compensate for the difference in lofts and found that I was much more accurate with distance and direction with my Pings. I purchased this Lob Wedge to complete my Eye 2 set from 3 to Lob Wedge. I use a Ping Rapture Hybrid 21 degree for my 2 iron and then into my three and driver. Playing much better and have a more accurate short game with the three wedge setup that I presently have. Good shooting all, have fun.Read full review
Ping Eye 2 Sand Wedge. Even though these came out in the 80s, these clubs still rock. I had a set of these years ago and always one to test the new waters, usually trade in an older set for the newest technology. I always miss the Ping Eye 2s versatility around the greens. Once you learn how to use it, you can replace the lob wedge and just use the sand wedge. Just open the face a little, open your stance and you can make it a 64 degree wedge with a little effort. Just stumbled upon one that was refurbished and couldn't pass it up to add back to my bag. If you've never hit the Eye 2's, give them a try. Sweet club.
Actually purchased on E-bay to complete my set of irons I've had for over 20 years. I love them. I like the "bounce" of the ping eye 2 lob wedge better than my Cleveland lob wedge, as it seems wider. Club puts great back spin on under 50 yards shots. Easy also to use in the sand. Seems very easy to control. Still able to use this club with square grooves due to a lawsuit back in 1993. Great club!
You can't go wrong with the square grooves. PGA legal, which is why a lot of pros are snatching them off here. I love my Ping Eye 2 irons, 3- lob wedge. Very accurate, good loft and sticks or backs up on green. They are easy to hit and very very forgiving. I mean a club that is over 25 years old and still get used today, what else can you say.
Over the course of my 45 year quest to find the perfect wedges for my game I have tried just about every club that you can imagine. Although I have had success with Cleveland,Titleist Vokey and other products it always comes back to the Ping Eye2 for feel, distance control and shot dispersion. These square groove wedges are the best ever made and probably will never be improved upon because of the new groove rules goverened by the USGA.It is getting harder to find these clubs in prestine condition so take some advice from an old caddie and find them in your color code and knock'em close and win those Nassaus.
