I've tried so many pet fountains from the $200+ six-stage Oasis to this. It boils down to two key elements, ease of cleaning & your pet comfortable using it. Some pet water fountains are ridiculously hard to clean. I really liked the Catit stainless Fresh and Clear, but the motor they use, while inaudible isn't made to last. I bought two of these Drinkwell Hy-Drates, one indoor, and one outdoor. I like it, plus it's nice that I can use whatever stainless or ceramic bowl I want. Can't speak for long term use, but so far this water filter and water circulator is simple, and seems to works well. Fairly quiet, but not inaudible like some pet fountains. The worst pet fountains made are hands down the Pioneer Raindrop series. The motor is noisy and they had a soft recall with the pumps. I tried several of them, and every single one was horrible to extremely horrible. Easy to clean but the pump is a lemon, and when it worked it vibrated as if the impeller was missing a fin. Strangely, the $15 Wal Mart fountain they sell in the cat section is pretty decent as well, dead quiet, & easy to clean, but it only holds roughly two cups of water.Read full review

I’ve been using these for years. I put mine in a 60oz stainless steel bowl and my cats love it. Cats like moving water so they drink a lot more . I do need to replace the whole thing about every 18 months or so but it’s worth it. It’s so much easier to clean the water bowl when using this than it was to take apart and clean a fountain. I put in fresh water every day and clean it every few days. I just have to take it out and wash the bowl, rinse the device, stick it back in, fill it up. The actual device is easy to clean too. The filters last about a month. I take apart and clean the device when I replace the filter. It’s so much quieter than a fountain. Pros- Quiet. Great price. Easy to maintain. It’s super easy to clean. The filters are cheap . It works better than a $150 drinking fountain. Cons-Have to completely replace about every 18months.Read full review

I love how it keeps the water rippling and the cats are drinking their water now. When the water gets low, you hear the water falls and that reminds you to add water. Pretty simple. You can add some river rocks to your bowl to decorate it like a little oasis.

My original Hydrate was getting old, over 6 yrs, so needed a new one! I like these better than the larger waterers because it is far easier to clean and you can put it in any dish! Great to have some spares!
