La presente etude passe en revue un certain nombre d'impacts environnementaux des ports, et elle examine les impacts environnementaux et economiques de divers instruments d'action qui sont ou peuvent etre utilises pour remedier a ces impacts. Elle s'appuie essentiellement sur les resultats d'etudes de cas consacrees a cinq des plus grands ports de la zone OCDE, - a savoir ceux de Los Angeles et Long Beach aux Aetats-Unis, Rotterdam aux Pays-Bas, Vancouver au Canada et Busan en Coree. On trouvera dans cette etude des exemples de problemes environnementaux lies aux activites portuaires (tels que pollution atmospherique et emissions de gaz a effet de serre, pollution des eaux, bruit, proliferation d'especes envahissantes, etc.) et la presentation d'un certain nombre d'instruments d'action differents pouvant etre utilises pour limiter les impacts negatifs. A ce titre, ce livre permettra aux decideurs et aux chercheurs de tirer des enseignements des experiences d'autres pays.
