Went to lowes threw down the credit card and drug a new Dewalt 734 planer home. Got me a piece of 11x23 inch x 3/4 thick red oak plank. It was scrap pieces of flooring and it had the indents on the bottom. I wanted them gone. I got one of those 6040 cnc routers off ebay is why I purchased the planer. Ran it threw the Dewalt a few times and it stopped feeding. Messed around with it for a hour or two. So I called Dewalt to see if there was something wrong. The nice lady told me the blades were dull? So I flipped the blades over and a few light passes it was doing it again. No feed and burning my nice piece of wood. At this point Im pissed. Back on phone to Dewalt and the nice lady told me I was doing to big piece of wood? And the planer was not a heavy duty planer? WTH it says heavy duty right on the box? I got reading and Dewalts blades are high speed steel and they just dont hold up. And they wanted another $300 for the helical head and I had to rip the hole machine apart to change it. I dont know about you but I got work that needs done. No time to piss with my brand new planer and spend more money on it. So on phone to Todd at the place that sells these Steel city planers. SOLD!! Had the steel city planer a few days later. Grabbed the same board the Dewalt burnt up and ran it threw. Dident even phase it. Chewed the red oak board down to a nice clean non bumpy surface.. AWESOME.. But I dident stop there. Had a 2 inch piece of ruff oak and ran it threw 30 times to get it where I wanted it. PERFECTION Still testing it I had 10 same size popular boards with same indents in it. It was flooring scraps too. 5.5 wide. Ran them all threw it and not a single problem. I took the same popular boards and banded them together. I have a nylon strap bander I use shipping stuff here. Banded it twice and ran them vertical down to 5 inch. Only time it was shut off was to band the wood. 10 min tops. I can not believe DEWALT sell a machine with junk blades. I love this Steel city planer. The deck was spot on out of the box. Its a little quieter than the dewalt too. The collection output is huge. I kept the dewalt adapter. Fits my vacuum. And I glued it to my vac so there not getting my vac hose. .Read full review

Works great with hardwoods using the full 13" width. Dust collection very good with just shop vac and dust deputy. You could easily pay the price of this planer for just the cutting head for other planers. Very little snipe. Though Steel City is out of business here in USA, parts are still available from Canada. Very satisfied.
