This product, when compared to others like it, is the best on the market. With the YardMax technology, a dog is not able to quickly run through the correction zone without a shock. This means they are much less likely to attempt to leave the yard. They also have more space to room because the correction starts at the wire and extends outward. I also love the rechargeable battery in the collar so you never have to worry about running out or spending money on replacements. My puppy is small and has not attempted to leave the yard on purpose yet but I look forward to seeing how he will explore his territory as he grow and has the weather improves (February in New England is enough to make anyone, man or beast, stay inside until spring).

I was undecided on wired vs wireless for ease of installation. I was installing myself so I wanted the best features for the least amount of time invested. After research, I chose the wired fence over the wireless because of heavy woods and structures that would block the signal. Now, for installation, this was fairly easy because I didn't bury the wire. I had three helpers and we laid about 1250 wire through the woods using turf staples to hold down. This took most of the day as we had to trim and clear brush here and there. There is no foot traffic in these areas other than animals. Crossing the driveway was another day’s effort as I tunneled under the driveway with PVC. I installed the fence transmitter in the room closest to the door where we let Minnie out (Old English Bull/Boxer mix). I did this because I want to hear the alarm if the wire should break. I also want to know if the circuit goes down and there's no power to the unit. It took about 100 feet of twisted wire and going through the basement up into a chase for electronics and mounted on the wall with Command Strips. The wire I used is 14 gauge due to a few things. It will be buried under leaves and in wet and dry environments. That, along with UVC coating and burial grade, it will be strong enough to step on and not break. Training was not so bad. There's a plan in the manual and I got to day 5 and Minnie was ready to run free with me being around. We are on day 18 and she is free to roam. I still will check on her every so often and I have had no problems. Well, at least with the parameter fence. When it's time to come in, she tends to run around and avoid coming in :-) There are two modes with the model. I use the YardMax option which means she get the audio signal at the wire and the shock if she crosses. I like this option because of the run through proof feature. This fence really works well with Minnie. She loves to chase chipmunks and they are everywhere. She tracked some yesterday up near the road. The wire is about 10 feet in front of the road and she never crossed as the chipmunks were running temping her to chase. We also have other dogs that roam and she's never crossed for this either. To wrap up, this was a great investment for us. However, each dog is different and may take longer to understand the fence. As others have stated, the most important part of the fence is the wire. Upgrade and do it once or take a chance with wire breaks and mice chewing through that 18 gauge wire that comes with most units. Read full review

I did my research and found this to be the best dog fence on the market for the money. It allows the dog to go right up to the boundary wire while other fences have large boundaries "zones" that restrict your pet to a smaller portion of your yard. It took an afternoon to set up, anyone could do it if you read the directions. I purchased it through Monell Pets for a very good deal, they we're very knowledgeable and helpful.

We have a narrow and deep yard. A traditional pet fence goes on the perimeter, and spreads its signal out from the wire. The stronger the signal, the wider the barrier and the further it intrudes into the yard. In our case, when we turned it up high enough, the dog had trouble getting from the front to the back yard. Also, once the dog is through the barrier, they stop getting a 'minder'. Our dog figured out that if she put her head down and ran, she was free. Not so with this model. The signal goes from the wire out, leaving the entire yard inside the wire available for the dog. And the dog gets punished from the moment she broke through the barrier until she returned (limit 15 seconds). The amount of power for the punishment is adjustable. The trick is that the wire has to be setup correctly, which is easy to do. I had already installed the wire for an older model. If I hooked up this wrong, the signal would go into the yard. If it had, I just had to reverse the connections inside the house. Easy. The only quibbles are the instructions for turning up the transmitter power. The instructions say to start out low, and slowly increase. I was not getting a response from the collar. I called and the tech basically said, don't start at setting 1, go to 7 and see how that works. Perfect and problem solved. Setting the collar is a bit confusing with holding the button and counting the flashes. I had to read and follow the instructions carefully which is not how most people install new products. But those quibbles are minor. My stubborn escaping dog got shocked once and she has not tried again. A wonderful product.Read full review

I am so pleased with this unit. We attached it to an existing fence in our pasture which encompasses our house, except we berried it going across our driveway and across the grass to get to and from our garage. I had already got a obedience collar for our dog (part black lab and part great Dane) he realized that that when he heard the beep if he kept going the next step was a shock. I only got him by one flag, after that I couldn't even pull him close to them. From that time on he has stayed in the yard and loves it; even when the little beagle from up the road came down he only runs her out of the yard but falls short of the flags. I am so glad to get this in before winter.
