Let's start negative. The only thing that I don't like about this collar is the proprietary charger that it comes with. If it breaks in any way I need to contact the company to order another one..... Otherwise, I really like the variety of settings, the rechargeable capability and the large range of sizes that I can use the collar for. My dog has responded well and hasn't needed to be above a level 3.

Everything works on this collar except that my dog does not respond to the vibration signal like he did to the collar he had and lost. I can feel it, but it has no effect on the dog. The previous collar, which was better, was a SD-400 but is no longer made. I don't want to use the shock signals unless absolutely necessary, so I find this very frustrating, and I am not sure how to go about retraining.

I have an eight month old GSD and purchased a much cheaper collar that had excellent reviews. It worked at times but was very inconsistent. This collar is very high quality and easy to use. I did not want 100 levels. That is way too many and honestly stupid. My dog responds great on the higher end and I am very pleased and glad I spent more money to get a great collar.

Used a SportDog unit for over 6 years with my last dog Belle a 100 lb Akbash. Probably shocked her 6 times at most during those years (when she was at risk) but eventually wore out the beeper button. Now have a Cavalier Poodle pup and in training mode with new SportDog unit. Both transmitter and receiver are much smaller and are as well made as the old SportDog unit I wore out. Don't buy some cheap unit. It will not work or last like the SportDog unit does.

Provides great versatility for settings and strengths in order to find the perfect one for both your dog and you. I loved that I could quickly change the level of stimulation on the dial, even in front of the dog, without having to pry the back of the remote open and drawing attention to the device. I do wish that I could change the levels of vibration more but, I can still slowly increase the levels of stimulation. I tried it on my hand between vibration and stimulation and level 1 was higher than I expected but, still appropriate. The positive is that there's a half second small stimulation option that is also included in the vibration and tone setting. You can safely increase to see what your dog responds to (without the dog yelping). Regardless, I was able to go from vibration to a half second small stimulation which would be suitable for a more sensitive dog however; did not phase my more dominant, less sensitive dog and found that I even had to increase the longer lasting stimulation with him in a safe way. If you wish to change modes/settings on this device, you do have to go away from the dog for this but, with the table the book provides, that part was easy. (I did have to use mechanical pencil for this - using buckle adjuster did not work for me). I HIGHLY recommend to NOT use these collars unless you know exactly how to properly use them (by an actual dog trainer). These collars have to be used very precisely with little to no room for error. FYI: What I tell everyone, if you've signed up for a "PetSmart dog trainer" or some other pet store employee dog training, this is not your product and they would not be able to train you how to use one.Read full review
