Vintage western braided leather quirt with two circular rows of tassels:

Recently a similar quirt was listed and sold and now another one is being listed - unmarked braided leather quirt with two rows of tassels. This quirt is almost the same except for slightly different measurements. As before, it has tassels that were occasionally found on quirts on the western northern plains. The core is made with long leather strips with the braided leather over the core. The length of the braided leather portion of the quirt including the loops for the leather straps [poppers] to the tip of the handle is approximately 19 3/8 inches. The length of the handle is 5 1/2 inches and it is separated from the rest of the quirt by an knot with 16 leather tassels hanging down pointing to the leather straps. The tassels are 2 1/4 inches in length. The width of the handle is 3/4 inches. Below the handle the width of the quirt tapers down to 5/8 inch. There is a knot at the end of the braided leather portion of the quirt that holds the loops for the leather straps [poppers]. The length of the leather straps is 16 1/2 inches There are 11 2 1/8 inch tassels in length attached to this knot pointing downward to the tip of the straps. There is a small brass nail holding the popper straps in place. The length of the leather wrist straps are 5 inches with a knot at the tip holding the wrist straps together. The overall approximate length of this quirt from the tip of the wrist band to the end of the leather straps [poppers] is 39 7/8 inches. Despite its age this quirt is in excellent condition and can be put into use today.
