Offered for your consideration is a nicely preserved vintage UTAH 10 inch wide-range wooferremoved from an Allied model 3009 speaker, USA-made in 1968. As you probably know, UTAH was one of the first domestic speaker companies and a notable driver supplier to the U.S. speaker industry from the 1950’s to late 70’s. Per the EIA source/date code on the magnet cover, “328819”, this speaker was manufactured by UTAH (328) in the 19th week of 1968.

So, please take a look at the large photos I’ve taken and read the remaining description to decide if this very capable driver is correct for your needs.

This woofer is in clean, excellent overall condition. It features a sturdy textured paper cone with ancillary ‘whizzer’ cone for enhanced high frequency response and both are perfect. Plus, the suspension is integral with the cone edge instead of the fragile foam that was soon adopted industry-wide in the U.S. Also, the galvanized steel basket is still very shiny with no oxidation. And, the +/- terminals measure the industry-standard .205”, are marked for polarity, and have been de-soldered for the next owner's convenience.

It’s been fully tested and sounds terrific with clean, detailed midrange response, solid bass output, and clear lower treble coverage. And, it’s very efficient—this 10” platform was designed in the tube amp era and yields good volume even under low input wattage. Also, I tested its DC resistance at 6.9Ω, consistent with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the basket measures 10⅛” across, it stands 3⅞” tall, and the mounting holes are spaced 7” adjacent / 9¾” diagonal apart, c-t-c.
