John Penn Brass Rubbing

The rubbing measures approximately 31 X 14 inches including the frame.

It is in really good shape except for a small nick on the frame as seen in the last photo.

At some anglesa shadow can be seen which is either on the back side of the glass or on the rubbing.

The following is the verbiage on the information sheet attached to the back of the rubbing.

John Penn 1641...Penn, Buckinghamshire

This brass to John Penn shows him in the splendid fashion made familiar by the portraits of his King, CharlesI. John Penn was a relative of William Penn,

the famous Quaker. It was by becoming a member of this despised and persecuted sect that William angered his father, Admiral Sir William Penn,

for Charles II had intended raising the elder Penn to the peerage, but withheld the honor when he heard the son had become a Quaker.

The father\'s anger was short-lived and his son became themost prominent Quaker in England and the most famous of all the colony-builders of America.

Charles II granted to him in 1681, payment of a debt owedby the Crown to Admiral Penn, the province of Pennsylvania.
