vintage BECKER 4\" tweeters with Alnico magnets and whizzer cones, 1965—excellent For Sale -

Offered for your consideration is a pair of vintage Becker part # SP414Alnico magnet 4 inch tweeters, US-made in 1965. As you probably know, Becker was a notable supplier to the domestic speaker industry in the 1960’s and 70’s and manufactured drivers for KLH, ADC and many other companies.

As per the EIA source/date code on the magnet covers, “24 6542”, these high frequency were made by Becker (24) in the 42nd week of 1965. So, please take a look at my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if these capable tweetersare suitable for your needs.

These tweeters are in clean, excellent condition. The ribbed paper cones are in flawless shape. Plus, they have ancillary ‘whizzer’ cones for extended frequency response and they’re perfect as well. And, the galvanized steel baskets are free of dings or oxidation—they’re remarkably shiny for being almost 50 years old! Lastly, the +/- terminals measure the standard .205”, are marked for polarity (red dot = + ) and have been de-soldered for the new owner’s convenience.

They’ve been fully tested and sound terrific—strong, clear output with clean upper midrange and upper frequency “sparkle” to the threshold of audibility. And, DC resistance tested at a perfectly-matched 3.6Ω each consistent with a nominal 4 ohm driver rating. Plus, they’re very efficient, and require very little input wattage to be brought up to listening volume. Lastly, the basket flanges measure 4⅛” square (5” at truncated corners), they stand roughly 2” tall, and the mount holes are spaced 3 5/16” adjacent / 4 11/16” diagonal apart, c-t-c.

So, as pictured and described, this vintage pair of Becker 4” Alnico magnet tweeters is offered at a competitive price.
