Hard to find special dog bowl. 

Very nice early Dog Bowl Water Bowl Dog Dish Feeder for long eared dogs like Spaniel, etc,.   This rare mold features the word D O G raised over deep horizontal ribs.  A very heavy weight bowl.

Marked Walter R Stevens and Son Inc, New York stamped in ink on the unglazed bottom of the bowl.  The style is  similar to McCoy Dog Bowls but much heavier - and of a higher quality, a more sophisticated design and deeper glaze colors.  I suspect an American Pottery Co, custom made for the above mentioned retailer who specialized in Dog Furnishings in New York and through their own catalog from the 1920s until the early 1940s.  The copyrights for Walter R. Stevens & Son New York - Dog Furnishings Catalog are well documented in United States Patents and Copyrights indexes for those years.  I would so appreciate anyone with additional information about this company, Walter R. Measures 8 1/2" diameter on the bottom and 7 1/2" diameter at the top x 3 1/8" High and weighs a hefty (3) three pounds.

This style dog bowl, with deep vertical ribs is so hard to find.  For many years I could only admire this scarce style in books.  One of the best, Living with Dogs, Collecting and Traditions, At Home and Afield, features what I believe are the exact style and maker as the bowl(s) am listing, with the deep ribbed design.  This wonderful book on Dog Collectibles and Antiques is certainly my favorite as well as the best reference book in my library.
