This model is completely hand built to scale by skillful and creative master craftsmen - you will be amazed at how real it looks. The shiphas a clear varnished finish that highights several amazing details.The ship includes: a wooden bowsprit, foremast, mainmast, and mizzen mast. They are all connected to numerous fabricsails with detailed stitching, all rigging is painstakingly fastened by hand in matching colors. On the main deck,there are2 wooden boats situated in a large rectangular area with 2 wooden bunkers, a wooden/metal steering wheel, and a wooden bunker with a telescope. On thepoop deck, there is a navigational area with 2 metal steering wheels for thecaptain and1 wooden cabin. There aremetal railings surrounding the beakdeck area toward the quarter deck area. You can easily spot 2 rows of numerousmetal cannonson both sides of the hull. In addition, you will find supplementary crafted metal ornaments on the ship such as: anchors, lanterns, statues, and many more... There is also a wooden rudder held with metal for authenticity. HISTORY: HMS Surprise has become famous as the 18th century tall ship portrayed in the movie \"Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World\", starring Russell Crowe. The ship used in the Academy Award winning film is actually a modern tall ship - a magnificent replica of a 24 gun Royal Navy frigate. The Surprise was painstakingly re-created to look like a vessel from the Revolutionary War Era. The replica ship was christened HMS Rose when launched in 1970 in Nova Scotia, and for more than 30 years served as a sail training ship, primarily along the East Coast. In the movie, a fictional British frigate named the Surprise and a much larger French warship, the Acheron, stalk each other off the coast of South America. The movie, directed by Peter Weir, was based on a book by author Patrick O\'Brian. After the movie, the ship\'s name was officially changed from the Rose to the Surprise.
