Gino Ruggeri's statue of a Greek discus thrower made out of alabaster and resin is beautifully detailed and stylized . He developed a technique of mixing Carrara marble and resin to make his pieces more durable and waterproof. Gino Ruggeri is one of the most well known sculptors in Italy and worked many years for Tito Bianchi in Bianchi's Factory in Tuscany.
This sculpter was well known for making reproductions of European and Greek mythological statues. This is original and stamped G. Ruggeri and also has the manufacturing stamp "Made in Italy" on the bottom. Ruggeri sold the rights to his business to Santini in 1987. These pieces have greater value than the Santini pieces
