We are still researching this piece and would love to hear from you! Currently we believe it is:
1. An illustration for a children's book. A travel story or story of fiction about life in 1800s Lapland. A schoolbook reader? 6th grade level novel or adventure story? A father taking his two oldest school-age children (boy & girl) on a cross country ski adventure with backpacks and knife on his belt. Pipe smoking mother stays behind with younger children playing. There are 13 characters,2 reindeer and 1 husky in the painting. Of the9 children: 2 are getting ready tohead-out with dad, 2 are playing on the reindeer, 2 are having a snowball fight, 2 are teasing the dog anda toddler on momma's skirt.
2. "Klondike Fever". The Alaskan gold rushstarted in the 1897 andSeattle was the hub. A largenumber ofScandinavianssought lodginginSeattle hotels.Thepainting is elegant, was itcommissioned to hangbehind the Front Desk ofaposh downtown Seattle hotel?
3. Early Pacific Northwest ski lodge? Note the couple sneaking off to their private fire-lite roomsuggesting lodging after a fun filled day of snow related activities. Does the larger-center tent represent a main ski lodge offering rental equipment? ...the smaller tents representing rental cabins?
Century-old original painting on heavy fabric. Bright vibrant colors with soft muted pastels that would blend nicely into any mid-centuryScandinavian decor. Excellent condition. The frame isaged but we feel restoration would diminish the piece. If you touch-up the frame you wouldn't be able to tell the painting was a century old, the painting is that pristine! Very large, measures aboutfive and a half feet acrossand 2ft tall.Because of the size, shipping will be $100.00 to any U.S. zipcode ($300.00 foreign).
