PRUSSIA. Regimental Honour Cross with The Queen’s Pomeranian Cuirassier Regiment No. 2 clasp, circa 1900 (PREUSSEN. Regiments Ehrenkreuz mit Gefechtsspange des Pommerschen Kürassier-Regiments ‘Königin’ Nr. 2, um 1900), parade-mounted

Gilt cross pattée with oak leaves between the arms and with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with a circular central medallion bearing the crowned Prussian eagle, the upper, left, right and lower arms inscribed respectively ‘MIT / GOTT’ ‘FÜR’ ‘KAISER’ ‘u. / REICH’ (With God for Emperor and the Empire), six-pointed stars at the bases of the upper and lower arms and the upper and lower ends of the lateral arms; the reverse with a circular central medallion bearing the Prussian crown, the upper, left, right and lower arms inscribed respectively ‘FÜR’ ‘KÖNIG’ ‘UND’ ‘VA. / TER. / LAND’ (For King and Fatherland), inverted crossed swords at the base of the upper arm, six-pointed stars at the upper and lower ends of the lateral arms; on original ribbon mounted for wear and with bronze crowned ‘POMMER.KÜRASS.R.2’ bar above a bronze cuirassier helmet imposed on crossed swords, the ribbon with recent supportive card stiffener. The Cross was awarded to Prussian regiments in about 1900. The Queen’s Pomeranian Cuirassier Regiment No. 2 was a cavalry regiment of the Royal Prussian Army founded on 1 June 1717. Originally a Dragoon Regiment and supported by the Princes of Bayreuth, it was known in the 18th Century as the Bayreuth Dragoons. In 1806 Queen Luise of Prussia became Colonel in Chief of the Regiment which was renamed the Queen’s Dragoons. In 1819 it became a Cuirassier Regiment and from 4 June 1860 was known as The Queen’s Pomeranian Cuirassier Regiment No. 2. The Regiment fought in all the major Prussian engagements of the 18th Century but was decimated by Napoleonic forces at the Battle of Jena in 1806. Reconstituted, it fought in the wars of 1813 to 1815, against Austria in 1866 at Sadowa and Pressburg and in France in 1870-71. During the Great War, the Regiment fought on both Eastern and Western Fronts before being disbanded in 1919. A good example of an historic award to one of the leading Prussian Regiments.
