RARE AMERICAN DAGUERREOTYPE OF DACHSHUND AKA WIENER DOG For Sale -

Uncommon sixth plate daguerreotype of a woman holding her Dachshund or "wiener dog", whose bright little eyes are attracted by something off to right.  Anonymous American circa 1850.  Housed in a full pressed-leather case.  

This little guy may be a miniature Dachshund, as I believe a full size would be a lot for the sitter to hold on her lap in that position.  The canine sitter is remarkably stable, with no little or no blurring.

The plate appears to have been resealed in the early days of modern daguerreotype collecting, a note on the back of the white seals indicates "From the Harry Gross Collection / 1979".

Condition: There is a fair amount of floating debris under the glass. Some tarnish intruding at left edge does appear to be on plate.  Plate is detailed, with applied hand coloring.
