This is a very thought out design to cure the 3 flaws of overflow boxes on the market.

1st is that it eliminates the noise. Models with Sponges have a flushing noise every 5 to 10 seconds. It's because as water drains it creates a vacuum. Gurgling happens with pressure build up occurs and water is sucked down forcefully down your drain plumbing after your overflow box. Second is a sponge design clogs. This could clog over time, slow the flow of your filtration and eventual overflow of your aquarium. 3rd. Sponges have to be cleaned and replaced frequently.

Problems eliminated:

Noise of the gurgling / flushing noise is eliminated by a stand pipe higher then the drain level. Water and air are allowed to mix at the same time preventing any gurgling noise from pressure build up. No sponge to clean and replace. Over 3 or 4 months you could save enough in replacement sponges to pay for it's self in no time.

1. Clear acrylic with attractive bent face on Skimmer box. This provides a seam free front and sides because no joints are needed on the skimmer box.
   
2. Skimmer box has 1" teeth for optimal height adjustment and maximizing water flow.
3. 1" bulkhead fitting that accepts flex hose as well as 1" PVC pipe. I recommend PVC pipe because it's inexpensive VS flex hose because it's expensive and not a permanent seal. PVC Pipe is schedule 40 typical sprinkler head pipe you find at your Hardware Store or big box stores.

I believe in a quality product. I've taken the flaws out of the overflow boxes that are commercially made. Enjoy your aquarium with out the noise.
