BLACKBOY TUG
The steeltug Blackboys, named after a Sussex village, was the first to be built andcompleted in just six months. She was demonstrated on the Thames at Chelseaearly in 1958. She had a LOA of 13.4Im and GRT of 22. This produces a model ofjust over 26ins (67cm) long with a displacement of approx. 6lbs.
Model notes
I haveincluded enough detail on the plan for a modeller to build Blackboys either asa plankon-frame model or of bread and butter construction. The builder couldindeed make a \'plug and a fibreglass hull from a mould if he so wished. Thebody plan shows a round bilge hull form and without any great changes ofsection should be fairly easy to plank. My usual preference is to incorporatesolid carved blocks at the bow and stern where curvature is greatest, and to providea solid termination of the ends of the respective hull planks.
