M 1883 Canvas Hood US 1900 QM tag Near Mint Unissued For Sale -

If you like to indulge in that rare feeling of seeing an antique item that is almost as new looking as the day that it was made, and the concomitant sense of time standing still, despite the passage of years, then this item is one of those too-infrequent treats for the senses.For your consideration: an original, unissued, near-mint, museum-quality specimen of the M1883 canvas hood that our frontier soldiers (and everyone else in the army, of course) wore until it was replaced by the olive drab hood in 1903. This particular hood dates to September 7(?), 1900 according to the date stamp, that is present upon the brilliant, vivid, and beautiful scarlet lining that this hood possesses. This hood was never issued, as the QM stamp is still present and affixed to the front of the hood. 121 years old, and never used for the purpose for which it was intended. I would love to know if there is another that is in better condition for its age.The only detractions that I could find, as duly noted in the accompanying photographs, are wear to the \"bulb\" or \"bean\" at the top of the hood, and one very small hole in the crimson fabric near the back of the hood, and that does not go through the canvas.I welcome any questions that you may have about this truly outstanding and rare item.A McKinley era canvas hood, unissued...they don\'t grow on trees.Thank you!
