Here is two great horse racingphoto's from 1907. The larger photo is standardbred "LOTTA" with trainer and driver Charles F. Barnes of Easton, MD. The horse belonged to Actress Lotta Crabtree and was just renamed "LOTTA" after her purchase of the horse in the summer of 1907 for $7,500. The horse was formaly known as Lady Thistle. The mounting board measures 10 3/4" x 13 3/4" and the photo measures 6 3/4" x 8 3/4". Both the mounting board and photo have some damage (see photos), but thisis avery special picture! Also included in the lot is a photo of the gentleman in the sulkybehind Lotta Crabtree's horse. The gentleman in the second photo is trainer and driver Charles F. Barnes. The measurements of the backing board is 4 3/4" x 10" and the photo measures 3 1/2" x 7 1/2". Some damage to the old photo (see all pictures). Sold at sale in Philadelphia to Mrs James H Baer(?) for $200 in 1903. Trained in 1906 by Charles F. Barnes who raced her all of 1906 and spring of 1907. Sold in June 1907 to Lotta Crabtree (Little Lotta the actress) for the amount $7,500. (Last line partly reads) Miss Crabtree sold her to another group that raced her until she broke down. LOTTA CRABTREE (Nov 7, 1847 - Sept 25, 1924) was an American actress, entertainer, and comedian. She was also a philantropist.

Born Charlotte Mignon Crabtree in New York City to English parents, she would go on to become one of the wealthiest and most beloved American entertainers in the late 19th century. From her beginnings as a 6 year old until her retirement at age 45, she entertained and was named "The Nations Darling". Her life story was filmed as "Golden Girl" (1951), starring Mitzi Gaynor.
