This is a transformer-operated, single-conversion, general coverage receiver using 4 tubes, covering 200KHz to 400 KHz and 550 KHz through 30 MHz in 5 bands . This receiver also used a selenium rectifier in a half wave rectifier circuit which has been changed to a full wave rectifier using a solid state rectifier.  The radio also uses one diode each for detector and noise limiting. The tubes used are a 6BE6 converter, 6HR6 IF, 12AX7 audio preamp, & a 6AK6 audio output.    The Star Roamer was a very popular receiver, it was sold for most of the decade of the 1960\'s.

When I got this receiver around 15 years ago, I went thru it changing the half wave rectifier to a full wave rectifier and replacing the electrolytic caps. I then aligned it and the radio worked very well.  It has been sitting on a shelf for most of the past 14 years and when set down and hooked up it still worked.  However, it seemed a little off on the shortwave bands, so I believe it needs an alignment.
