K&E Autocollimation Conversion Unit for Jig Transit, # 71-1211:
$199.99

For your consideration is this vintage (1965) illumination accessory for K&E (Keuffel & Esser) Paragon jig transits. Despite its age, the cord casing is not brittle and cracked, the lamp housing and transformer shells are clean and undamaged and, yes, the light works (see photos #8 and 9). It shows little sign of use; has been in storage for years in its original box with blue inspection certificate.
As described on page 17 of K&E catalog #9: \"The unit converts a jig transit telescope, line-of-sight telescope, and titling level telescope into auto-collimating telescopes. The unit comes complete with a light plug assembly, cord, line-switch, and a fixed 6-volt transformer\". The cord is approx 12 feet in length. The fixed 6-volt transformer is K&E part number 71-5511, which consists of a step-down transformer within the shell of a Bryant twist-lock connector (see photos 4 thru 6). The receptacle half has a very short cable; it was probably modified (shortened) in the past.Photo #7 shows an exploded view of the light assembly, which consists of the lamp housing, GE #328 lamp, and threaded connector. The lamp housing also contains a thin-plate beamsplitter set at 45 degrees, which sends the light out thru the telescope without blocking the view thru the eyepiece. Thanks for looking.
