Fine Art Carving of Ferret or Otter by Famous Master Carver Jacobo Angeles: For Sale -

PURCHASED FOR $1200. Thisbeautifully carved and painted otter or ferret is from my personal collection, which I\'m downsizing (running out of space!). The price I\'m asking is at a fraction of the cost I paid for it. The intricately painted otter was carved by the world famous Oaxacan alebrije carver Jacobo Angeles. Museums around the world display Sr. Angeles Oaxacan folkart carvings. You can view more of his work in a stunning art coffee table book called, \"Alebrijes III: Masterpieces by Jacobo and Maria Angeles.\" In 2014 Sr. Angeles was invited to the Vatican to meetPope Francis and to set alebrije nativity scenes. Sr. Angeles and his wife, Maria del Carmen Mendoza,work together inSan Martin Tilcajete of the Oaxaca region of Mexico. They createZapotec figurines known as alebrijes, a form of Mexican folk art. The figurines are carved from native copal wood and in the case of this otter, the entire piece minus the tailwas carved from a single piece of copal. The tail was carved separately andglued into the carving. Much of the vibrantly patterned painting is done by Sra. Mendoza using natural minerals and pigments. Most of the patterns include symbols of Zapotec origin. Thisotter is covered in colors of gold, brown, red, green, blue, teal and black. The piece is a wonderful example of the beautiful, complex art created by these artists. I have included some close up photographs of some of the painted detail. The underside of theotter is painted a solid golden brownand the artists have written in Spanish a description includingthe title, number, and materials used.The piece is signed by Jacobo Angeles and his signature \"snail\" adds a punctuation mark to the art piece\'s description and authenticity. This is a beautiful piece in excellent condition; I have been the only owner. It comes from a smoke free environment. The piece is of medium size at 11\" long from nose to tail, 3\" wide from hip to hip, and7 3/4\" high from the feet to the tip of the tail. This is a lovely piece for a collection, gift, or surprise for an otter or ferret lover!
