"LES CHIEN D'ARRET - RACES ANGLAISES" published in France,a first edition 1890, overall size approx. 14" x 18.5" this is one of the most famous colour illustrated dog books / portfolios ever published, in it's original portfolio covers which are in very good condition, it is illustrated with 12 full size mounted colour illustrations of dogs by Olivier De Penne and with numerous smaller black & white illustrations throughout the text, only 1,650 copies of this book where ever issued and the vast majority of these have been taken apart and the illustrations framed. The colour plates are a Gordon Setter, an English Setter, an Irish Setter, a Pointer, Curly Coated retriever, Clumber Spaniel, Sussex Spaniel, cocker Spaniel, Water Spaniel, Beagle and the guard dog (a Rottweiler used by a game keeper as a guard dog) all the 145 pages of text (which is in French) and illustrations are in very good clean unmarked condition, an extremely rare and important illustrated dog book, especially in this superb original condition.
