This is a true vertical steam distillation unit made fromscientific-grade borosilicate glass, specifically designed for easysteam extraction of essential oils from plant materials by thenon-chemist at home, resulting in the highest purity essential oilsUnlikeother steam distillation units on the market, this system offers true"dry steam" distillation in an all glass (Pyrex) system. Coupledtogether with ground glass joints, there are no hoses or rubberstoppers in contact with your product...it's ALL glass!
This system's underlying design addresses a number of problemsassociated with competitives stills, Because of it's "vertical" design,the biomass flask stays dry, none of the "boiling water" is wastefullycondensed and trapped in the biomass flask, and because it usesseparate flasks for boiling and biomass, there's no risk of overheatingor possibly burning your plant material.Our UNIQUELY DESIGNED RECEIVER (click for info) traps up to 20mL of either "heavier than water" oilsor "lighter than water" oils while automatically draining away theexcess condensed water (the "Hydrosol", that can be kept for manypurposes) thus allowing you to start the distillation and let itproceed on it's own without constant need of attention.Whenthe distillation is complete, the receiver then doubles as a taperedseparatory funnel, allowing you to easily separate your prized oil fromthe remaining water.

(This having been said to complywith 's rules)Here's some practical considerations of other units on the market and this systemProblem:
Lots of water always condenses in the biomassflask- it's unavoidable, and it accumulates and eventually covers up alot of the plant material I'm trying to distill.
Solution:
Inthis vertical system, that water simply drips back down into theboiling flask to be reused, instead of accumulating in the biomassflask being wasted and causing plant material to become flooded and nolonger in contact with steam.
This system's vertical design insures that the biomass stays dry.
Problem:
I have to constantly add water to the steam generator flask
Solution:
Becausethe water condensed in the biomass flask is returned to the boilingflask, this system can go for three hours or more without having to addnew water to the boiling pot.
There's a ground glass stopper in the side of the boiling flask to make water addition very easy, in case you need to.
Problem:
The distiller takes up the whole room, it's so big and spread out
Solution:
This system's vertical design is very compact and doesn't take up the whole kitchen sink!!
Problem:
Uncondensed steam occasionally comes out of the end of the condenser...isn't this potentially loosing precious oil?
Solution:
Unlike systems with vertical "up-going" or traditional 105 degreeangled condensers from which uncondensed steam can often escape, thissystem has a vertical "down-going" condenser in which the steam isforced straight down. This insures excellent agitation of the vaporsand complete condensation, with no chance of steam or product escaping,even when using room-temperature tap water for cooling instead of icewater and a pump, which is often recommended in other systems

The yield in this setup was aprox. 3mL (3/4 of a dram) Here's some oils I've recently distilled with an identical kit,
from herbs and things in our garden

These vials are the result of ONE distillation of the herb,
ie we packed the bioflask full and this is what we were rewarded with!
The quantities vary with the actual type of herb,
when it's picked, where it lives, etc,
