Tapewormer (Praziquantel)for Fish andother animals.

Praziquantel is primarily used against parasites known as "Cestodes" (tapeworms). The common tapeworm of dogs and cats, dipyllidium caninum (carried by fleas),is most often the problem needing treated, though Praziquantel is also effective against less common types of tapeworms. Also effective againstflukes and other nasties in fish, and is used often in horses.Safeguard or Panacur (Fenbendazole),Pyrantel Pamoate, Ivermectin, and other wormersdo not kill the common tapeworm (carried by fleas), as oftenfound in pets. The exact same Praziquantel is used for dogs, cats, fish, horses, sheep, goats, and many other animals, but doses vary by species. You could overdose many times without ill effects since Praziquantel is very safe, but proper dosing is recommended. Pets should be 4 weeks or older to worm for tapeworms.

Dogs and catsget tapeworms from ingesting fleas while grooming themselves. The tapeworm is released from the digested flea and attaches itself to the intestine and starts absorbing nutrients. Some people treat their pets for tapewormsroutinely, at least once or twicea year. However, treatment when tapeworms are indicated in fecal deposits is best. You might sometimes observe small (1/4 inch longor so)white narrow flatsegments in the stool. These may be seen to slowly move, contracting then expanding in length. These tapeworms grow to about six inches long in the small intestine - only small segments are excreted. When dried up in old pet stools these tapeworm segments may look like grains of rice. You know your pet has tapeworms when you see tiny segments that look like a grain of rice around the rectum of your pet. You might also see short segments in the stools. Dragging the anus on the floor or ground can be due to tapeworms (or other causes). Such Tapewormscan only be treated by Praziquantel and it only takes one treatment (mix in food or put in mouth). However, your pet may not show asign of tapeworms, andyet have them - keep looking at different times for they may show just occasionally. Best to treat all your pets at the same time to eliminate future transmission from untreated to treated pets. Tapeworms are the least harmful parasite for your pet, so don't be alarmed if you see signs of them - no need to rush to treat right away. However, they do cause mild nutritional deficits (some people report that tapewormscause a dull coat that improves after treatment).

This sale is for treating tapeworms only. I have other sales for round/hook worm treatment, tape/round/hook combo wormer, and Fenbendazole for round/hook/lung/whip worms and Giardia treatment.Check out my othersales - you may find a better wormer to bestmeet your pet's needs - click on "see seller's other items" in top right sectionof this page. Contact me if you have any questions about your pet's needs, dosing, etc. This will preventorderingmistakes. If you let me invoice you before you pay, you can combine items from my other pet care productsales and pay a single $4shipping charge for all sale items. If you let me know after you pay for two or more sales then I will issue you a $3 credit for each $4 shipping charge that you paid over one, but here you must let me know before I ship any of them alone. I can only cancel the $4 shipping charge for extra sales if you let me invoice you before you pay for any sale.

Small orders can be shipped in a letter envelope for minimum first class letterpostage (44 cents or slightly more), yet you still pay $4. My $4 shipping is a flat rate charge,no many how many items you order, and no matter if you combine items from multiple sales, so some orders cost memore than $4 to ship, yet you only pay $4. If you resent paying $4 for such a small actual shipping charge do not order. I do not get mail delivery to my residence so I make specialtrips to a mail drop off toship. The time I use,and car expenses I pay, are factored into my shipping costs so that I try to break even on shipping. No frills - costs cut to the essentials but no compromise in product quality- for you and your pets.

Tapewormer (Praziquantel) dose for dogs or cats: Use2.2 MG per pound of pet weight as a minimum dose that is FDA recommended (see FDA notice at bottom on Praziquantel for use in dogs and cats). Most people give a little more than this minimum dose since it is very safe. List your pets by their weight. Add these weights to get a total weight of all your cats and dogs. Multiply this sum by 2.2and this is what you need in MG (milligrams) of Praziquantel, as a minimumdose, for getting rid oftapewormsin your pets. Dose for horses is the same dose asfor petsat least2.2 MG perpound of horse weight, or use a150 MG scoopper 60 pounds of weight. Add the measured dose of Praziquantel powder to a mixture of molasses and applesauce then mix it up and spread it on a piece of bread and fold in half. Then walk around and give each horse their sandwich. For fish use 9 to10 MG per gallon of tank water where one 150 MG scoop an aquarium.

Please check this before submitting your order. When you order 1, 4, 7, 11, 16, 19, 28,40 or 62 orders then I will know the amountyou want ofthe bulk powder.I will include a 150 MG measuring dispenser (1/8 of a teaspoon)with any ofthese bulkpowder ordersas an accurate way to measure doses. This scoopmeasure of 150 MG is for 40 to 60 pounds of pets (or 60 pounds of horse weight), but can be divided for smaller petsor combined for larger pets.

I will give 1000 MG of Fenbendazole free (fish owner's special) onorders fortapewormer bulk powder of 10,000 MG (or more). Must be requested in message to me.

Consult a Vet before using any pet product, but especially ifgiving to very old, or unhealthy/debilitated pets. May give to healthy pregnant pets, but best to not use Praziquantelwith mothers that are nursing (but can use Fenbendazole or Pyrantel Pamoate with pregnant or nursing mothers - on my other sales - click on "see seller's other items" in the upper right of this page). You can give Praziquantel topuppies at leastfourweeks oldand 2 pounds in weight, and kittens at least 4 weeks old and 1 1/2 pounds in weight. Temporary nausea may occur in about 1 out of 20 pets.

Dosing powder in two methods:

(1) Use thepowder dose andmix in a pet’s moist food that will all be eaten by that pet (be sure the pet is hungry). This works fine with dogs and many cats, though some cats will not eat dosed food (see next dosingmethod below). You can dump a 150 MGscoop of the bulk powderon a plate and separate into eight nearlyequal piles and use each pile for 5 to 7.5 pet pounds (two piles combined treat an 10 to 15 pound pet). Combine two scoops for 80 to 120 pound pets. Or separate the 150 MG into three near equal piles for three pets each weighing from 14 to 20 pounds each. Wrap unused portions separatelyin tin foil and store in dark place (closed drawer) for future use. Put powder in moist food and feed to hungry pet in one treatment. For cats that reject dosed food, because of its taste or smell, this next dosing method is more certain:

(2)Liquid inject dosing. You could also mix the powderin someoil-based gravy orKaro purewhitesyrup (no water), mix well (Praziquantel does not mix well, particularly with water),thendraw a measured amountup in a needle-less syringe (I provide free if you request it)and inject in back of pet's mouth. Take the150 MG scoop, and use the syringeI provide (if you request it) and draw3.5 ML of oil-based gravy orKaro purewhite syrup (or liquid wormer on my other sale,to make the combo wormer to dose adult dogs - cats, kittens and puppies need more liquid wormer than 3.5 ML, however),then put itin a cup. Pour the contents of a 150 MGscoop of tapewormerinto a cupcontaining 3.5 MLliquid.Instead of gravy or syrup, add 3.5 ML ofmy liquid wormer on my other saleif you want to makethe combo wormer for adult dogs - cats, kittens and puppies need more liquid wormer than 3.5 ML, however.Mix welland draw out the amount needed to dose a pet (using the 3 ML syringe as scaled in 1/10 of a ML marks). Draw 1/10 of one ML per1.3 to 1.7pounds of pet weight into the syringe. So give one ML for a 13 to 17 pound pet, four ML for a 55 to 70 pound pet, three ML for a 30 to 54 pound pet, 2 ML for a 26 to 34 pound pet,1.5 ML to a 20 to 26 pound pet,4/5 ML for a 10 to 14 pound cat or dog,1/2 ML for a 7 to8 pound cat or dog,2/5 ML for a 5 to 6 pound cat or dog, or1/4 ML for a 3 to 4 pound cat or dog, etc.

Cats can be hard to dose since somemay reject the tapewormer powder in their food. Mix the powder with a liquid - see (2) above.Draw measured liquiddose into syringe. While someone else holds and strokes the pet to relax it, open the mouth of the cat (or dog) and squirt deep in back of mouth while quickly closing (and holding closed) thepet's mouth (nose pointed up) so the cat (or dog) will swallow all of it. If you don't inject deep, so the cat swallows all of it, then the liquid in the mouth will cause the cat to salivate and spit it out.

So, be sure to request the free syringe if you want to liquid inject the dose, as is best in dosing manycats.

Minimum dose is 2.2 MG of powderper pound of pet weight. Overdosing up to two times the doseis no problem.

Make your own Liquid Combo Wormer: Buy tapewormer powder above (comes with a 150 MG measuring scoop), then buy liquid round/hook wormeron my other sale(Pyrantel Pamoate, and comes with a syringe) and mix together to make your own liquid combo round/hook/tape wormer. See mixing anddosing instruction on my other sale forthe Liquid round/hook and tape wormer. Mix one LWL for $9 with 3000 MG of tapewormer for $6to make about 3 1/2 ounces of liquid combo wormer that thus costs you $15 total plus $4 shipping.

Horses: Treattwice a year using10 MG ofPraziquantel for every 4 pounds of horse weight, or 150 MG for every 60 pounds- see below for horse treatment recommendations.

Fish treatment with Praziquantel andFenbendazole:

Fish (not for fish to be used for human consumption). In feed: Use9.5 MGof tapewormer per 1 gallon (or 2.5 MG per liter)of tank water. You could give several times more than that amount and not harm your fish or plants. Most people just thoroughly mix powder in a container of water drawn from the aquarium and then pour backslowly into the tank in a place of a circulating stream (or in the filter box). It is a good idea to first remove debris from thetank or even use a change of water. Be sure to remove theactivated charcoal from thewater filter (or it might absorb some ofthe Praziquantel) and stop foam-fractionation (“protein skimming”). Some peopleempty Praziquantel into a cup and mix withsome Vodka or Ethanol to make itwater soluble, since praziquantel mixes poorly with water.

Repeat this in 5 to 7 days where flukes and not just tapeworms are treated. After treatment is over, return charcoal to the filter. Some people like todrain the water andrefill, after the first treatment and before the second. Treatagain when you add more new fish that might bring tapeworms or flukesinto the tank.

In fish feed instead of whole tank treatment: To each 25 grams of dry feed (flake, granular or pellet) thoroughly mix in 100 mg (1/10 gram) of Praziquantel. Moisten the dry mixture with 12 ML of grain alcohol (190⁰ ethanol) for each 25 grams of dry feed; gently blend the moistened mixture to incorporate the Praziquantel into the feed. Feed the medicated feed daily for 5 to 7 days. Allow the mixture to air dry (do not heat), break up any clumps, package and store in a cool, dry, and dark (no light) place.

CAUTION: Grain alcohol is flammable!

Some aquarium owners wisha small amount of Fenbendazole with a very large amount of Praziquantel, since Fenbendazole is fed to the fish in verysmall amounts while Praziquantel is put into the water in large amounts. I can supply 1,500 MG of Fenbendazole powder for $2 if you order two orders for $2 on this sale, and tell me you want the 1,500 MG of Fenbendazole in a message to me. Or, I will include 1,000 MG of Fenbendazolefree when you ordertapewormer bulk powder (for orders of 20,000 MG for $28 (or more than 20,000 MG).

Here are tips for using Fenbendazole with fish:

Camillanus is easily recognized as a small thread-like worm protruding from the anus of the fish. Control of this nematode in non-food fish is with fenbendazole, a common antihelminthic. Fenbendazole can be mixed with fish food (using gelatin as a binder) at a rate of 0.25% for treatment - 25 MG per 10,000 MG (10 grams) of food - one nickel weighs 5,000 MG or 5 grams, so food alone should weigh 2 nickels, before adding 25 MG of Fenbendazole and gelatin. Since one paper clip weighs 500 MG, the amount of Fenbendazole here is 1/20 of the weight of one paper clip - a very small amount. You can mix one part of this powder (500 MG equal to weight of one paper clip)with 400 parts of food (or 200,000 MG of food) - whereparts are by weight. It is easier to put one 150 MG measure (same as a1/8 levelteaspoon, or use 1/4 teaspoon as 300 MG and separate into two 150 MG piles and use one) of Fenbendazole on a plate, and mix with 60,000 MG (60 grams or two US ounces) of fish food and binder (gelatin or perhaps jam but not perserves), thenbunch into one pile, feed parts to fish in treatment.

For a smaller amount, take one 150 MG measure of Fenbendazole as above, divide in half, then divide these two in half - gives you four 37.5 MG piles.Mix one of these in with 15,000 MG (3 nickles in weight)of food and binder (gelatin or perhaps jam).Try to use very little jam - only enough to bind the Fenbendazole and food together. Take small pieces of the treatment mix and put in tank for fish to eat, and do this for 3 days at least. You want the medicine to stick to the jam and fish food, and not dissolve in the water - so the fish will eat it. It should be fed for three days at least, and then repeat for 3 days or more in three weeks.

Capillariais a large roundworm commonly found in the gut of angelfish, and controlled with fenbendazole - see from above link: Dissolve 3 CC (3 ML)of powdered Fenbendazole in 100 CC (ML) of water.
Mix well, then add as many bloodworms as you need to feed your fish. Soak for 30 mins to 1 hour, then dump the entire container in the tank, water and all. So, for 14.35 in cost, I picked up my Fenbendazole in powder/crushed form. I brought it home, and prepared the first dose. It seemed to really soak into the bloodworms, changing them to a slightly lighter and grayish color tone.I fed the fish 2x A Day for 2 days. I watched the affected fish carefully. Within 36 hours, all worms have withered and dropped away from the affected fish. Within 48 hours, I could find no remaining fish with Camallanus Worms protruding. I followed up with a good gravel vac and a large water change. I repeat this treatment in 2 weeks time, and then again in 2 weeks following if need be.

Roundworms (also called nematodes) may also be found inside aquarium fish. They have complex indirect life cycles, and fish can serve as both intermediate and final hosts. Nematodes can cause problems to fish (and also to humans who become infected by eating raw or poorly prepared fish). Roundworms are reddish-brown in color and vary in size. In severe infections, they may be seen protruding from the vent. Nematodes can be found in the digestive system, swim bladder and body cavity. Treatment involves breaking the life cycle and using appropriate drugs such as Fenbendazole, which is dosed in food for three days at 250 mg per 100 grams of food. It may require several rounds of treatment, in addition to eliminating any intermediate hosts and improving general hygiene to remove infective stages.

Using Fenbendazole to Kill Hydra and Planaria in Shrimp Tanks - By Triet Do, USC School of Pharmacy
Mix 1000 MG of Fenbendazole with 100 mL of drinking water. Shake VIGORIOUSLY! There will always be undissolved Fenbendazole settling on the bottom. The point of shaking is to make a saturated solution of Fenbendazole. Save this solution in a bottle for future treatment.
1) Dose is 100 MGper 10 gallons of tank water, every 12 hours (prefer at night).
2) Use a SYRINGE to draw 10 mL of the solutionand inject to your 10-gallon tank. If you have a 20-gallon tank, draw 20 mL of solution and so on.
3) Dose every 12 hours until all hydra and planaria are gone. Usually after 3 doses.
4) Do a 25% water change if you feel necessary. I don’t normally do that but my shrimps are still healthy and breed fast.Buy 1000 MG of Fenbendazole for $1 by ordering one $1 order on the Praziquantel tapewormer sale and letting me know it is for Fenbendazole and not for the tapewormer pack.

Note:Best to treat all pets owned at the same time, even though not all show signs of tapeworms, to prevent later contagion from untreated pets to treated pets.

Horse treatment:

Convert weight of horsesin kilograms to pounds where onekilo = 2.2pounds. Multiply kilogram weight of horseby 2.2 to getthe weight in pounds, then dose in pounds.

Dosing powder: Add the measured dose of Fenbendazole or Praziquantelpowder to a mixture of molasses and applesauce then mix it up and spread it on a piece of bread and fold in half. Then walk around and give each horse their sandwich.

Winter - use Fenbendazole (see my other sale) at thepower dose of25 MG per 5 pounds of horse weight, each day for five consecutive days. Also do this for incoming horses.Use 5 MG of powder (mixed in lightsyrup and then in dryfood)perpound of horse (250 MG per 50 pounds or 22.7 kilograms of horse weight), each day for five days, in this winter dose or with a new horse. A 900 pound horse requires 4500 MG of Fenbendazole per day for five days in this power dose. For control of encysted early 3rd stage (hypobiotic), late 3rd stage and 4th stage cyathostome larvae and 4th stage larvae of Strongylus vulgaris, this power dose at 5 mg/lb (11 mg/kg) daily for 5 consecutive days is recommended. For foals and weanlings (less than 18 months of age) where ascarids are a common problem, the recommended dose is double this at the power dose of5 mg/lb (11 mg/kg)in one treatment on one day only.
Spring - use one shot on one dayof Ivermectin at one tube per 1250 pounds (568 kilograms)of horse weight. Also use Praziquantel in one treatment on one day using 15 MG per 6 pounds (2.72 kilograms)of horse weight, or one 150 MG scoop of Praziquantel for 60 pounds of horse weight (or one 150 MG scoop per 60 horse pounds). Use also for new horses coming into the pasture.
Summer - use Pyrantel Pamoate, one treatment of2500 MG (24 ML of the liquid I offer)on one day per 1200 pounds (545.5 kilograms)of horse weight.
Late summer -use Fenbendazole (the less expensive powder form mixed in light syrup then mixed in feed) at thehalf-dose (not power dose)of 2.5 MG perpoundof horse weight), on one day only. A 900 pound horse requires 2,250 MG of Fenbendazolefor one day of treatment only. Administerdose ofFenbendazole orally, at this non-power doserate of 2.5 mg/lb (5 mg/kg), for the control of large strongyles, small strongyles, etc., in one treatment (one day).
Fall -use one shot on one dayof Ivermectin at one tube per 1250 pounds of horses. Also use Praziquantel in one treatment on one day using 25 MG per 10 pounds (4.54 kilograms)of horse weight, or one 150 MG scoop of Praziquantel for 60 pounds of horse weight.
Late Fall - use Pyrantel Pamoate, one treatment on one day of 2500 MG (24 ML of the liquid I offer)per 1200 pounds (545.5 kilograms)of horse weight.

Treat all horses at the same time. Rotate pastures keeping one empty for some time (allowing worms in manure to die without infesting horses). Pick up and dispose of manure whenever possible.
