 Dancing Women
With Red Scarves
Art Deco Nudes
Bronze Clad, Plaster Cast Bookends

This pair of stylish circa 1940\'s era Art Deco style bookends each hold a beautifully sculpted figure of a woman, standing nude with short cropped haired, back arched, one hand behind her head, while the other holds long red painted scarf flowing off her shoulder to her outstretched hand, then down towards the base. Unable to locate any mark or mention of specific manufacturer, no specifics on date for production, thus without certainties regarding such details.

That stated, these sensuous designs remain excellent sculptures in their own right, with a bright and luxurious metallic bronze-like coating. Appearing at first to be cast from solid metal, these lovelies are in actually ceramic pieces, into which electrodes were inserted during the molding process, then using high current electricity slowly formed up a bronze shell around the exterior, creating a \"cladding\" of electroformed bronze, a method sometimes taking days to complete.

Each bookend measures approximately 5.5\" tall, 7\" wide, and 3.5\" deep, and rest upon rubbed remains of green felt still attached to both bases. These bronze clad figures do show some light rubbing, small scratches or chips in a few places, brushing away some of the bronze cladding on highlights. The red paint of the scarf also shows moderate wear and rubbing, with small flecks of paint chipping off along edges and highlights. Otherwise generally showing minor wear, having what could be called a nice patina of age, this fine pair of classic nude Art Deco bookends would certainly would add grace and charm any library collection, and overall could be considered in good or better condition.
