This is a set of six Chinese Export 8\" dessert plates in the Rose Canton pattern, featuring typical nature motifs with flowers , butterflies and birds within reserves painted on the plates. The glaze on the bottom is a light grayish tone which one expects to see at mid 19th century or earlier production.
These descended in an old Long Island family and were purchased within the last 20 years out of an estate. They have not been in the marketplace until now.
Colors are intact and the plates are in very good condition both structurally and cosmetically. The rims show mild signs of wear; not chips but slight discoloration . One of the indicators of age is the accumulation of sand on the bottom rims, picked up from the sand used to cover the kiln shelves at the time. There are other sporadic kiln marks. No signature on the bottom , as would be expected for this export ware.Would complement Rose Medallion service well
