ca1900 HAND PAINTED OCCUPATIONAL SHAVING MUG BLACKSMITH IN BLACKSMITH SHOP:
$51.00

Very rare and original, ca1900 Hand Painted Occupational Shaving Mug belonging to a Blacksmith showing the interior of a Blacksmith Shop with the Smith at work.

The decoration on the Mug is a wonderful, interior view of the Blacksmith’s shop with a flaming forge, an array of tools and the Blacksmith working on a glowing horseshoe with anvil and hammer.

This original, early 20th century Saving Mug measures approx. 3 1/4\" tall and 3 1/2\" in diameter at the top and the base. It is made of a high quality, porcelain china material. The Mug has a bright white ground surface with bright and outstanding color decoration and gold gilt highlights which are worn.

The decoration on this Shaving Mug is very attractive and the Mug carries the mark of the manufacturer – V & D / Austria.

This very rare and original, turn of the 20th century Blacksmith’s Occupational Shaving Mug displays nicely but has had 2 areas of high quality, professional restoration – one along the top edge above the image and extending around the right hand side of the rim (not affecting the image itself but obscuring the name of the original owner) and the second around the foot of the Mug (again not affecting the image area). The decoration is generally well preserved and very attractive – the colors are bright and vibrant and there is no wear to the central image. The gold gilt highlights are worn and the original owner’s name is obscured by the repair. The ground porcelain is a brilliant white except for the areas of repair which exhibit an off white color. There are no other chips, cracks, physical damage or repairs except for the two rather large but well executed repairs described above. Please see the scans below for a good indication of the form and condition of this wonderful Blacksmith’s Occupational Shaving Mug.

A rare and very attractive, ca1900 American Occupational Porcelain Shaving Mug belonging to a Blacksmith showing the interior of a Blacksmith Shop with the Smith at work and a fantastic addition to any collection!!
