Just in from an estate, clean non smoking home. A vintage Boetch Bros Birch Model 3, portable phonograph with several 78 rpm records (fair but playable).
This little Birch Model No3. is a survivor ... nice overall condition, with several fair condition 1940s and 50s 78 rpm records. All original as found, installed a fresh stylus. After a good long winding, it makes it just past one full play on a 78rpm record and sounds pretty nice -- then it slows requiring another winding..it was improving after each wind -- so it will probably work much better after some cleaning and lubrication. Currently works OK -- but will further benefit much form cleaning and adjustments -- best left to new loving owner.
The outer case has several nicks from age -- has a light patina on metal parts and otherwise all over -- very nice and to look at. Has clever builtin storage for 78 records, the hand crank and and equally clever speed control -- it\'s all very clever and easy to operate -- very romantic from a bygone era!
These tiny, very portable crank up 78rpm players were made for many years -- starting in the 1930s -- and still sold well into the 1950s! They are reliable, easy to work and produce room filling sound from a few good winds! Pretty impressive still .. even in the age of the iDevice.
You won\'t get such a nice old cracklily vocal range presence from modern electronics either. When certain vocals hit -- harmonica, and banjo -- this old voice range wonder sounded quite impressive -- even needing some TLC it\'s very fun to play with!
