Big Dumb Pug- Custom Built Longtail Fatbike- Xtracycle, Surly, Chris King, XTR For Sale -

Custom built Big Dumb Pug, built by Aaron Rogers of Banjo Cycles in Madison, Wisconsin. This was built in 2009 and has been to Interbike and NAHBS, along with many fun events around the Madison area. Since moving from Madison, I just don’t ride it enough and would rather have somebody enjoy this bike as much as I did. 

I would say it’s a Large or maybe Extra Large sizing, I ride 21-inch mountain bikes and 58cm touring bikes. As you can see though, there is quite a bit of seat post sticking out, so if you are a medium, it could work. Now the specs:

Frame and Fork- Custom 

Front Rack- Built by the Rack Lady, can fit a pizza on the rack and has removable low rider mounts. Also have 2 protected light mounts

Chris King Headset

Dirty Dog Monkey Skull stem

Surly Open Bar handlebar

PDW leather grips

Shimano SLX 3 x 9 trigger shifters

Hope hydraulic brakes and levers

Front wheel has a Schmidt dynamo hub laced to a Surly Large Marge non-offset rim with Surly inner tube and Surly Larry tire.

Rear wheel has a DT Swiss 540 tandem hub (145mm) laced to a Surly Large Marge offset rim with a Surly inner tube and Surly Endomorph tire. 

Both wheels are covered by custom wooden fenders built with wood from a tore down garage in Detroit and used pallets from the GM factory, just a little history on them.

The front derailleur is an E-type Shimano XTR and the rear derailleur is a 9 speed Shimano XTR. The cassette is an 11-36 Shimano XTR 9 speed cassette. The crank is a TruVativ Blaze triple with 175mm crank arms.

Xtracycle Freeloaders are in good shape. Also included is a pair of Wide Loaders, 1 Long loader, and a pair of Footsies. I’ve used all these and they work incredibly. 

On the rear is a Rocky Mount fork mount to tow another bike. There are a couple washers on there to add a little extra bite to the skewer since I’m guessing the mounts are not meant to have the extra pressure from being towed, just sitting on a car!

Custom built double legged kickstand makes loading much easier than just the regular 1-sided kickstands.

There are some rust spots on the bike, looks like it’s the paint; I couldn’t find any places that rusted through. 

I really enjoyed this bike, but just don’t ride it like I used to and with some other projects on the horizon, I figured this is a good time to get this bike to a home that will enjoy this bike. Whether you load it up with groceries or put a person on the back and go for a ride, or take it out to your local trails and carry all the tools to better them, the possibilities are endless.
