Hello from Spyglass Treasures and Spyglass Booty! We are constantly trying to "SPY" out treasures for you in our travels. Please come back often because you never know what we have "commandeered" to offer you!

This lovely antique bird music box was in rough shape when I acquired it. I took it to a local music box collector and repair expert for restoration. You see the result of the wonderful job they did! I will include their business card to the winner. The restorer's best guess, and they were 90% sure since this box is not marked, is that it was made by Bontems in Paris. They also told me that this one is pretty early dating to sometime before 1875 but they did not get more exact than that. I will describe in more detail under the "Condition" section what it was like when I acquired it and what I remember they did to restore this wonderful box. Please enjoy the video here http://youtu.be/fOqyV_zXoF8 of its wonderful action! A stunning treasure you NEED to commandeer for yourself or your loved one!

Condition:
This box was completely black, the bottom was missing, and there was some damage to the enamel scenes next to the hinge. Inside, apparently, an incorrect bellows was inside the box and the bird had been crushed. The restorers fixed the bird, re-feathered him, built a new bellows, had a new 18kt gold plated bottom and new ebony feet added. The outer case was reconditioned to its original faux tortoise shell beauty. Lastly, without hiring an artist, they did a wonderful job of disguising the damage to the enamel scenes near the hinge of the lid. This gorgeous antique Bontems bird box is now in excellent condition! It plays just delightfully. Don't you agree?

To International buyers: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to offerding/buying. These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when you pick the item up. Please do not confuse them for additional shipping charges. Regarding returns: You are welcome to return your item for a full refund for any reason within two weeks of receipt. However, the shipping costs will be your responsibility unless the return is being made due to an error on my part. Thank you!

For the most part, I use Priority and First Class Mail for lighter weight items and for items that may not require a box but can be shipped in an envelope. For heavier items, I will ship via UPS (if shipped within the continental US) or USPS Parcel Select. To save time, I estimate the size and weight of the packaged item and may estimate a little high. If the shipping and insurance cost you paid ends up being more than a rounding error, I do send refunds back to your Paypal account. If I underestimate, I do NOT request additional funds.

My shipping days are typically Monday through Thursday not including holidays.

An additional note about insurance. Some time ago, changed its rules regarding insurance. They state that making sure that a package gets safely in your hands is the seller's responsibility. While I agree this is actually a very good policy to ensure confidence in making a purchase on , it has resulted in making insurance a requirement for every sale. Insurance is included in the shipping and handling cost for all items shipped within the United States. All items whose value goes above $100.00 and whose winner is outside of the United States will be shipped via USPS Insured Priority or Express Mail.

"The urge to save humanity is always a false front for the urge to rule it." – H. L. Mencken (September 12, 1880 – January 29, 1956)

“Did you really think that we want those laws to be observed? . . . .We want them broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts that you’re up against – and then you’ll know that this is not the age for beautiful gestures. We’re after power and we mean it. . . . . There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-aoffering citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of lawbreakers – and then you cash in on the guilt. Now that’s the system, . . . that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.” - Floyd Ferris to Hank Reardon in Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand (February 2, 1905 to March 6, 1982)

"I will not cede more power to the state. I will not willingly cede more power to anyone, not to the state, not to General Motors, not to the CIO. I will hoard my power like a miser, resisting every effort to drain it away from me. I will then use my power as I see fit. I mean to live my life an obedient man, but obedient to God, subservient to the wisdom of my ancestors; never to the authority of political truths arrived at yesterday at the voting booth.” - William F. Buckley (November 24, 1925 – February 27, 2008)
