Antique Tinsel Theatre Print Miss Hallande Old Fabric Collage Picture Victorian?:
$21.02

A small framed tinsel print titled "Miss Hallande as Paulina". No publisher's imprint.A very neat theatre print, with much of her dress and hat some sort of fabric.Tinsel prints have a history going back to the 17th century, in France. The idea of adding materials to a plain print was taken up by London's Toy Theatre manufacturers. They were offered as deluxe versions of their "tuppence coloured" prints, and by the middle of the 19th century, shops were selling ready-made accessories - hats, breast-plates, swords etc. This is a modest little print, part of it neatly hand-coloured. I am not sure of the date of it - I would like to think it is Victorian, and there is certainly a little browning to the edge and below the title, but it could be later.Miss Hallande was an actress who made her first appearance at Covent Garden in Feb. 1821, as Violetta in Don Juan. She was born in Somerset, and was never known by any less formal name!Size of frame: just over 15cms x 12cms.Condition: In a good condition. The figure and background have obviously been cut out and stuck onto the backing card. The frame is in a good condition, but it is not old.Free postage within the UK. £7.00 to Europe, £10.00 to USA etc.I am putting other such theatre prints on this week, and will of course combine purchases for posting if more than one item is purchased. I also have other antique prints, maps, books, etc. in my shop - please see my other items.
