Rare example of an Antique circa 1800 A.D. French Napoleonic Light Cavalry General Officer’s sword “SABRE DE RÉCOMPENSE”.

Details: An ornate empire brass hilt in the Garde a la Marengo manner, an S-shaped crossguard, and langets splendidly decorated with profoundly hand chiseled leaves, an ebony grip retained by elaborate rivets and enclosed by brass straps with a curved pommel with a lion mask and extended backpiece decorated with scrolls. A beautifully hand forged steel blade with slender multiple fullers, skillfully engraved and gilt ,decorated on one side with the bust of a Turkish Sultan wearing a turban, on his head enclosed by talismanic symbols, and a bow with two arrows above. The outer side of the blade is engraved with a Sun Face enclosed by talismanic symbols, and a heraldic shield crowned by a turban, adorned by feathers.

Condition: The sword is in good condition considering its age of 200 years. The blade is with minor wear, the engravings are in very good condition and are crisp and clearly visible, better than can be seen on the pictures, two vertical cracks in the ebony grip (one on each side of the grip), and two minor chips on the edges near the pommel.
