Antique American Tall Case Clock Movement & Dial - Restored and Serviced:
$375.00

Nice early American tall case clock movement and dial. The photographs provide an excellent view of the movements construction and current condition. The plates are thin and the front plate retains its nice rough cast surface, with the back plate being polished. The movement has fine work on the gear trains with small pivots and nice finishing; also note the delicate work on the rack and lifting arms. The bell has an excellent deep tone struck with an unusual turned brass hammer. The maker of the movement may be identifiable by the strike hammer as it is truly uncommon. The movement is most likely from the New England area, but could also be from eastern Pennsylvania. Based on construction, it dates to around 1815 - could be a little earlier or even a little later. The seat board measures 4 1/2\" x 14\" x 5/8\" and is in great untouched condition.
The dial has been repainted (professionally) sometime in the past and has a nice older look and the paintings of the flowers and leaves are nicely done. There are a couple of small flakes as shown in the photographs. The surface itself has a mat appearance across the whole surface except for a small area at the top of the arch which is a bit shinier. The back of the dial has been painted black over a rough surface and the metal sheet is fairly thin (does not appear to be an iron sheet). There is no false plate and the dial connects directly to the movement. The dial measures 16 5/8\" x 11 7/8\" (top of the square) 11 11/16\" (base of the square).
I purchased the movement a few years ago for a project that I have, but have decided to use a different movement and dial. I did service and restore this movement, which included cleaning and polishing (not lacquering) as well as correcting previous poor work. When I got the movement the rack foot had been recreated with heavy wire and lead solder, the set off arm had be reworked with a simple rectangular piece of brass sheet and worst of all the snail had been filed in an attempt to get the strike count correct. The photographs show my work to correct all of these issues. The movement has been up and running perfectly for more than six months with test weights (8lbs time, 10lbs strike), pendulum, pulleys and hands.
The sale includes only the items shown in the photographs (Movement and Dial). The sale DOES NOT include: a pendulum, pulleys, weights or hands. All of these items can be found at either Merritts or Timesavers. Also note that adjustments to the movement to get it up and running may be required after shipping.
The weight of the movement and dial is about 8lbs and I am estimating 15lbs for shipping calculation. I am also estimating the box needed to be 22\" x 18\" x 18\", again for the shipping calculation. If the actual shipping is substantially less, i will refund the difference.
