ANTIQUE VICTORIAN 1889 JAMES DIXON CUP/GOBLET -DUNDEE DOG SHOW- FOX TERRIER TEAM
For offers today we have the second of two Victorian prize trophies we're selling this week.
This trophy is silver platedin a cup or goblet design and was made by James Dixon and Sons.
It features a definite Celtic or Medieval feel which may be in response to its client - the 1889 Dundee Dog Show!
In fact, this cup was won by a Mr J B Smith and his troupe of Fox Terriers Sefton, Silvio and Schism in the best team event.
Because of its canine credentials the cup features stylised panels with dogs and birds interwoven in a Celtic knot type pattern. While it's hard to pin point one outstanding feature among thegeometric boarders, simple line patterns and pin point stylingthese dog designs may just pip the others to the post.
As you'll see from our pictures this cup is in excellent condition with no damage whatsoever.
Bar the usual light marks, the only note we can give is that the gilt interior has started to discolour which may clean away but we haven't attempted itincasethis damages the gilt itself.
The cup measures 19.9cm high by 9.1cm wide making it a fab size for display.
So whether you enjoy antique metal work, want a decorative curio for your home or have your own team of Fox Terriers offer now and make this wonderful piece yours!
