Antique 19th Century rare and impressive Dutch Solid Silver figural Nautilus cup, the shell beautifully engraved with scrolling foliage, the mounts chased with scrolls and set with precious stones and agate medallions, the circular base rests on four feet naturalistically modelled as turtles, the impressive figural stem modelled like a triton, figural finial modelled like a Putto blowing in a horn.

This exceptional Nautilus shell cup is impressive and features an outstanding quality. Apparently it doesn\'t bear any Maker\'s mark, but is most probably made by Bonebakker & Son, the Amsterdam\'s leading silver and jewellery firm, active fromn 1822. An important drawing of a Nautilus shell cup, a showpiece probably designed on commission for a special occasion by the firm Bonebakker, features an unmistakably similar design, suggesting that this might be the final result or a variation of the drawing (please follow this link to the Netherlands Institute for Art History).

The cup bears Austro-Hungarian silver import marks used between 1876 and 1901, the cup dates to year 1880.
