Here for sale is a 1958 John Deere 720 Diesel Tractor in south Texas. Factory electric start and 1958 serial # 7227243. We believe that is the original paint on it. Weights and 3-Point and everything on it goes with it. There is diesel in the oil and our rep. who looked at it said could just be the gasket in the injector is bad and to replace that you drain it and put a new gasket in. Or it could be the fuel pump causing that. It is loose our rep. said and the brakes may be stuck but he wasn’t sure as haven’t tried to roll it yet from where it’s been parked. Has the parts that go with it as shown in the one picture including those parts shown for the clutch and the flywheel cover. The owner had parked it four years ago because it needed new clutch plates and from what we are told most or all of the clutch and related parts are there. We assume and hope once a rebuilt clutch is back on and a little simple tinkering it should fire up good and run good as we're told that was the clutch was the reason it was parked.

For the 3-Point we have new John Deere 720, 730, etc. top center links complete for $220 including shipping that look just like the original. Rims and valve stems are good on it as the pictures show. This 720 is a harder to find 1958 late model Black Dash 720 Deere Tractor. The factory black dash tractor were made in 1958, the last year the 720 was made (1956-58) so they are more sought after by collectors. And this tractor does still have it's black dash and all black background gauges. And so in 1958 these Black Dash 720's were made and also given a update with some mechanical modifications to improve operation and durability including to the hydraulics, clutch, rockshaft and power steering. Also in 1958 you could then order some new options such as a pre-cleaner (such as is on this 720) and left side hydraulic controls.

(NOTE: A hour east of this Texas location we have some other Two-Cylinder project and other tractors we'll be listing this week which include a loose a1958 John Deere 720 LP Propane with wide front and 3-Point that ran great when parked 7 years ago. Also will be listing a round tube wide front, a set of 730, etc. pistons, and a nice set of factory tractor weights for a 60 or 70 front end.

Already listed on here or by this TX location includea 3010 LP tractor, a 730 Diesel, a 630 gas tractor and a #45 Front Loader for a narrow front tractor.)On this 720 tractor if you need help with delivery we can help ship it at just .50-.60 mile if over 500 miles.

From the John Deere Collectors Guide - "After a short reign as king of the row-crops, the 70 was replaced by the 720. The new 720 exhibited improvements in virtually every area. With the Custom Powr-Trol, a new position-responsive rock shaft enabled the operator to preset working depth. The operator could raise the implement for a turn at the end of the row and then drop it to the same working depth as before. Also featured was the Load-and-Depth Control, Deere's answer to Harry Ferguson's Draft Control. This feature automatically applied raise-pressure to lift the implement when tough soil conditions where encountered, thereby not only lessening the draft load, but also pulling down on the back wheels to improve traction. Once the hard spot was passed, the system automatically return the implement to its original depth.

Except for Diesel, the engines were all new. Displacement was decreased, but rated rpm's were increased from 975 to 1125. This, plus improved cylinder heads and pistons, increased power and reduced fuel consumption.

To increase the productivity of the tractor, the productivity of the operator must also be improved. Therefore, on the 720-as on other models in the 20 series-operator comfort and convenience features were added. A new "stand-st-will," more roomy platform was added; the instruments were easier to read; the controls fell more naturally to hand; and the new Float-Ride seat, supported on an adjustable rubber torsion spring and a hydraulic shock absorber, was standard."
