When I saw the cover of the Nov-Dec 2015 issue of MinRecord magazine, I did a major double-take, because the grossular garnet (var. hessonite) specimen shown there looks very much like this piece. The rich cinnamon orange color is very similar, and the crystals on both pieces are sharply formed, gem clear, with brilliant flashy luster. I acquired this piece in 1990, and it comes out of my own collection. Now that the mine has been closed for many years, pieces of this caliber are very rare. There is one crystal on the edge that is dinged, and a flat spot which looks to me to be original, but may conceivably be a cleavage face.
