This base rock has been power washed, scrubbed and cleaned. At this stage, it has been tested and found void of contaminates and should be ready to go into your aquarium after a quick rise after shipping. Minor terrestrial microfauna may still be attached which will not adversely affect you aquarium. Simply rinse and arrange the rock into an aesthetically appealing formation and you will have done your part. To seed you can use rock rubble or live rock from a local aquarium store or bought online. Good water conditions, frequent water changes, and nature will do the rest.
This base rock is composed of namely skeletal carbonate (i.e. ground coral and its skeleton) that comes from a Cretaceous Reef in Central Texas and has been above ground for more than 65 million years. In the Cretaceous Period the shallow warm water reef spread over 400 hundred miles and hosted a variety of Marine life similar to the life expected in modern coral reefs. This lightweight and porous rock readily hosts the beneficial algae and bacteria found in “live rock” providing an affordable and attractive substitute to the overpriced and mostly dead “live rock” that must be “cured” before introduction into a stable marine environment. Because this rock comes to you cleaned and dry you don’t have to pay for the added pounds of water that are shipped with its competitor—i.e. you get more rock for less. The coral rock comes in all shapes and sizes so please specify your preference so that your order can be filled to properly suit your needs. (New aquariums must still be cycled!). Identifiable fossils found within the rock include algae, sponges, bryozoans, brachiopods, crinoids, conodonts, coral, ostracodes, gastropods, nautiloids, and other forms of marine life. (Note: Base rock is used to augment or substitute the need for using live rock in your aquarium. This rock is not alive and will not become alive without introducing the proper mixture of organisms into your aquarium. Above picture is a small section of my aquarium and has foundation rock, Fiji live rock, and Tonga live rock. It will take several months for the dry foundation rock to have similar coralline coverage. Second picture is of the dry foundation rock prior to coralline coverage.)
