Up for your offerding considerationis this rare and hard to find 1983 Franklin Mint National Historic Society Civil War Chess Set.

Thischessset comes withits original certificate of authenticityina display box. There is also another COA that I am adding to the sale as well.These may have come per box or per each individual pewter piece. I only have two. You will be receiving the16playing piece information booklet set. I do not have the identification chart.

The chess playing pieces are a beautiful pewter and enameled blue and grey. The depictseveral Civil War heroes, with Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee serving as the Kings on the Union and Confederate sides respectfully. The chess playing piece set is COMPLETE. There are 32 Chess Pieces in all standing 2" inches in height with felt bottoms.

A 12" inch x 12" inch wooden game board with aleather top playing field opens up to house the chess playing pieces.

There are a few minor dings and scratches on the woodbox. The playing board surface is in very good but playing used condition with a few surface scratches.The chess playing pieces are also in very good playing used condition with some rifles slightly bent on the pawns and the felt bottoms on all the pieces used. This does not take away from their apperance or integrity.

I purchased this item at an estate sale and this set may have originally come with a table with legs. Itwill display and play well on any table in your home. The original cost of the game itself was $400.00 and you had to purchase the chess playing pieces 2 at a time each month.
